Description Sleet fell from the sky, harsh cold splatters fell across Vera's face. She winced slightly, not at the cold but at the feel of it. She couldn't quite explain it, she loved the snow, it was light, soft, and refreshingly cool. Yet sleet was heavy and ugly, it weighed her down and soaked her to the bone. She sighed softly and pulled her already freezing shawl closer to her. It was the only warmth she would have for a long time and she was going to appreciate while she had it.
Vera began walking yet again, her black boots disapearing in the snow with each knee-deep step. Her muscles ached from the exhertion and the cold, her cheeks flushed red in horrid contrast to her deathly pale face, her long brown hair soaked and stuck limply to her back. In her hand was a small tophat, tan with a single black feather sticking out of the side. On the corner of the hat was a dark maroon spot of blood.
The right side of Vera's head was a large gash hardly able to be seen through the heavy clot of blood and hair. The sleet was making it run, leaving horrible streaks of red run down her cheeks, neck, and staining the edges of her clothing. Her unusual soft pink eyes were dull and staring off at the distance, there was nothing to be seen but the endless mass of snow. She stumbled, letting out a weak cry as she toppled over, her tiny frame quickly disapeared entirely. She could feel the coldness creeping in, her entire body shook but she could feel her energy and will leaving her. Vera tried to get up but it was as if her brain was sending a message and nothing was recieving it. Instead she managed to curl her knees up closer to her chest and she closed her eyes.
Maybe a small nap will do me good... The hopeful side of her mind told her, the part that insisted things were okay when they weren't. She knew it wasn't true, she knew falling asleep now would be forever, but it was hard not to listen to that voice. It seemed so sure, so comforting, certainly it couldn't do any harm, right?
Does it even matter anyway...? she thought at last, just as she drifted off and her bodt quit shivering.
