Description

An acrylic painting from 2017 on 50 x 70 cm canvas.

I used structure paste, black gesso, white gesso highlights and then acrylic colours.

Among the acrylic colours I used was also some iridescent green that I used for the dots or "eyes" on the moth's wings.

When you see the original and walk past it, the dot changes colour from seemingly just white to iridescent green.

A cool effect that unfortunately doesn't translate as well into the photo. But, still, I like how it turned out. Hope you like it too.

It looks pretty cool in real life. Which is what makes photographing my paintings and editing them so frustrating sometimes. The colours sometimes just don't look like they're supposed to. And of course, the texture of the structure paste creates tiny shadows on the surface which you need to be mindful of while doing the tonal value adjustments.

Thanks for the praise!

Thanks!

Now that you mention the branch like lines, I remember that in addition to structure paste, I also used scrunched up tissue paper for the texture of the canvas in this piece before applying the gesso and paint. That's where those spidery lines are coming from. I quite like that effect myself.

And the iridescent colour I used sparsely, but it still spices up the image quite nicely when viewing the original in the "flesh".

Thanks again for your feedback. Your comments make my day!
