Description Although I love New Zealand with all my heart and swooned when I saw its glorious landscapes in the second "Narnia"-movie yesterday, I think Scotland would have made a glorious Middle Earth, as well. The landscape went so well with the soundtrack on my MP3 player, I was getting gooseflesh on a constant basis - especially the Rohan Theme seemed to have been written for it.

And the Glencoe Mountains would have made a very impressive and forbidding "Mountains of Shadow" (which is the ridge around Mordor), don't you think?

Excellent picture, catches the "mood" of the glen fabulously! I like the comparison with Mordor, very weather and "state-of-mind" dependent (for me, anyway! ) Lovely eclectic gallery too. I'll be back for a proper look.

Thank you very much! I had a look at your gallery, too, and swooned over the gorgeous Scotland pictures! I can't wait to go back (in a month, yeah!!!).

You wouldn't have any *secret* hints about what to see in Oban, Isle of Mull, Islay and Arran?

Thanx Ma'am! Glad you saw some pix you liked.
Don't know how you are travelling, but just out of Oban (15-20mins) is Ardchattan Priory. I haven't stopped there for a long time, but some fabulous ancient stones and history, plus there used to be an incredible collection of cacti in a big greenhouse. I believe its still open to visitors, and its close to Oban. Check out : [link] & [link]
Mull is fab, follow your feelings and go down some of the dead end roads to the coast, lots of hidden treasures! Check out Carsaig Bay on the SE coast, used to be old men there who made rocking chairs of whale bones washed up there (we have a vertebra we found there) Iona is amazing. Also check out the Sea Eagles : [link] !! They are huge!!

Don't forget Midge repellent!! (A lot of woodcutters use Avon Skin-so-Soft : [link] agenum=2 It depends on your personal chemistry!! Might get it in shops in Oban)
Don't knnow much about Arran & Islay other than great walking & wildlife.

Hope you have a great time and the weather (and midgies!! ) are kind to you! Just follow your nose.
PS Remember to wave if you go through Glencoe Village!!

Love the shot!
Unfortunately I've never been to Scotland, I wish I go some day, but from all the pictures of it I've seen I think you're right, it's magical, btw. every place that left untouched by people is magical !!!!!

Definitely. I love places where you can be alone with nature, and there are not many places in Europe where you can get that. One of the drawbacks of Scotland is the veeeery wet weather, but the landscapes and incredible skies more than make up for it!

you're right, so you should come to Bulgaria, to the mountains- there are still some wild places; before we totaly destroy them, coz I think that's one of government's main goals...

Oh no, really? How can this be a *goal*, it's a crime! I love wild forests, they are so incredibly different to *domesticated* forest, but there's hardly any left in Europe, unfortunately.

Ok, not "official goal", the official goal are hotels, roads and so on for tourists and all that for money, but noone asks how much money will cost the lost of the nature...

Unfortunately, this seems to be the case almost everywhere today...

I haven't seen or read the Narnia Chronicles, do you recomend? The photo is perfect, I love the way the bumpy line on the edge of the montains is repeated in the clouds (another "wall worthy" effort).

I didn't read the books, and I thought that the first one was really more a kids-movie (+ the FX were not really good, they didn't have enough time for it), but I like the second one a lot better.

It is quite a bit darker, which is always a good thing with me, and New Zealand's landscape are - once again - breathtaking in it. *sigh*

I also had fond memories of that place where the kids emerge in Narnia (Cathedral Cove on the North Island), because I was there that same day when they shot, wanting to go on a Kajak-tour which was cancelled because of that. so I went to the viewpoint instead, and kajaking the next day. it is such a GORGEOUS place!!

Another one of my 1,000,000 photos of Glencoe. While we didn't get to see the "Lost Valley" on that tour, I was really happy for these dramatic clouds. That was really something else.
