"SHITS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!!!" Was my initial reaction when I fought Red in HG/SS on an Emulator (I'm a dirty Pirate Yarrr!), and then I lost once, and then to my dismay just rekt Red's Pokemon using my team when I learned what he did.

that was a hard fight with red, but at the same time i hated beating him, because i always saw him like me. quiet, yet determined. steady yet as light and fragile as a feather. alone yet always near friends. y'know?

Oh man, that brings up so many memories
Just gotten a new "Gameboy-Pocket". Alle games in black and white.
My first game was PM-RED. Second game then was PM-GOLD.
When i saw that last trainer in GOLD standing on that mountain I was like "don't I know that guy?"
Then the battle started and I read "Trainer RED want's to battle". Immediately turned of the GameBoy and was like "NOPE!" XD
Damn was my younger I scared of that battle ^^

Two things: This Red looks more than a little demonic, and this would be an unforgettable battle. In fact, it would probably be one of the best battles in the history of Pokemon battles. It might be a bit one-sided, though, given that Red eventually becomes the Pokemon Champion (after Blue, that is), and Gold never even challenged a gym.

Something tells me you haven't played Gold and Silver, whether the originals or the updated ones HeartGold and SoulSilver, since it is in that game that the protagonist defeats the Elite Four, Lance the Champion, the gym leaders of both regions, Team Rocket (counting Giovanni throughΒ Celebi), and then faces Red on Mount Silver as his final challenge.

Eh, it's Pokemon. Not really much in the way of spoilers, unless it's the anime, given the games follow a simple cycle: Beat the gym leaders, challenge the Elite Four and Champion, rinse and repeat.

Still, the idea of the new generation overcoming the old was something apart from that formula, as two the idea of defeating two different sets of gym leaders from different regions. For the protagonist/hero of 2nd generation to be able to meet, battle, and win against the protagonist/hero of 1st generation was a pretty cool idea.
