It's funny how it's so dark yet so beautiful. I love the expressions on their faces and the fact that it looks like hills and fields of flowers or nature around them, but it's actually skulls when you look at them directly. Very wonderful composition!

In the Manga, only once. He wa stabbed a few times (through the Eye and straight through the spine on his neck by Shinobu, across the eyes by Inosuke, and partway through the neck by Kanao before Inosuke flung his blades to push her own through the demon's Neck and permakill him. So, he only had his head cut off in the canon.

Demons can still function fully well with their head or other body parts detached, and they move in response to the mind normally. Only sunlight and Nichirin metal can do permanent damage to them due to disintegration. Wisteria flowers are also toxic to them ,which is how Shinobu gets away with stabbing instead of decapitating. However, the time taken for a demon to fully disintegrate outside of sunlight depends on the strength of the demon. In the anime, all of the moon demons get conveniently juuuuuusssst enough time to express their final thoughts and run through an emotional flashback scene. The upper moon demons can survive decapitation for some time and some have backup defenses and weakspots in other places, but in Douma's case, it's just his power that allows him to hold off the disintegration for as long as he does. Also, the part where Shinobu holds his head is after he died in a sort of hallucination.Β

This part was so stupid to me, he still destroyed her 1v1, HUGGED her and then ATE her only to meet her again in the afterlife where he falls in love with her.... Douma got a better happy ending than Shinobu did. #RipShinobu
