You've got to type in the write thing to get emotes. e.g.

(Without spaces)
: angered : -->
^ ^ ; -->
: ) -->
ect

There should be a link at the bottom right corner of the reply box that says emoticons - if you click it it'll tell you what to type

Also you can include other deviants avatar in messages by typing :icon(username): eg

(again without spaces)
: iconshadow-the-zoroark72 : -->
: iconkawaii769 : -->
ect

And I think that's it really. I think it's only premium members who can use deviations in your messages eg :thumb171300146: by pasting in the thumbnail

Because JPEG affects the quality of images. I don't know if it counts for PhotoShop, but definately in PaintShop.
