"Stupid cold..." You muttered, trying to wrap your thin jacket around you to keep out the cold, but to no avail. It was your first time in Kalos, so you tried to explore the region. However, you had gotten yourself lost inside this freezing cave. You tried to follow the icy river to get yourself out, but that didn't work either.

Then, a Haunter appeared in your face. You screamed, stumbling backwards, but you tripped and fell into the water. It was even colder than the air, numbing your muscles as you were chilled to the bone.

"Help! Someone!" You yelled desperately, but you thought no one heard you. It was early in the morning; only the most dedicated trainers would wake up this early in the morning and train here.

In other words, no one would be here to help you. You fought weakly against the current, but it was too strong for you as you were swept away. I'm going to drown. You thought, as you face was submerged under the water.

You dimly remember going upwards, then jostled back and forth. Heat slowly spread throughout your body, but your eyes remained closed. You felt yourself being carried, but by who?

"C'mon, please. We're almost there, whoever you are." They reassured, their voice distinctly male. You could almost feel your hair begin to freeze into little icicles as a frigid gale pierced your waterlogged clothes, turning your blood to ice.

You felt like giving in to the cold, but his voice somehow managed to keep you going. His small words of encouragement kept your heart beating, right until you were rushed by an ambulance...

"[Name], [Name]. Please wake up." Your mother's voice pleaded. Your eyes slowly cracked open, taking in the world. Your mother was a sobbing mess, her face streaked with tears. You felt guilt pierce your heart like a rusty knife.

"Sorry, mum. Don't cry." You murmured feebly, realizing where you were. The walls and ceiling were white, the bed was uneven but warm, machines beeped, and there was a breathing tube in your nose. As you tried to sit up on the lumpy hospital pillows, your mother quickly pushed you down.

"Sweetie, you need to rest. After that young man brought you here, I came here as fast as I could." She said, planting a kiss on your forehead. Suddenly, it clicked.

"Mom, where is that person? I need to thank him..." You said. You remembered his voice, his words echoing in your head. You owed him your life, otherwise you would have

"I don't know who he is, I haven't seen him yet." Your mother replied. Just then, a boy your age appeared, sporting a causal yet stylish blue and white jacket, black jeans and shoes, and a dark reddish hat with sunglasses and a messenger bag slung around his shoulder. He had pale skin, black hair, and calm gray eyes.

"Are you the boy who saved my daughter?" Your mother asked.

"Yes." He smiled a tiny smile, as if he was embarrassed to be a hero. You recognized his voice and knew he wasn't lying. Your mother wrapped him tightly in her arms, crying some more.

"Oh my Arceus, thank you so much!" She sobbed, while the poor boy was smothered in your mother's bone-crushing hug.

"Mom, please!" You groaned. She released him and he staggered a little, but he regained his balance.

"Um, anyway, my name is Calem. I was just training and, well, now I'm here." He said. Your mother placed her hands on his shoulder, lifting up his chin.

"Oh, you are such a brave and handsome young man. You're perfect!" Your mother gushed, her matchmaking skills in full force. If little tubes weren't attached to your arms, you would have face-palmed.

"Mom..." You muttered, your face getting pink.

"Haha..." Calem laughed nervously, blushing at her compliments. "It was the least I could do." He said modestly.

"I'll be taking my leave now. If you need anything, let the doctors know!" She sang, going out the door, leaving you and Calem alone.

"So... Thanks for getting me here. My name is [Name], by the way." You said. He smiled, a slightly goofy smile that warmed your heart.

"No problem. You have a nice name. It suits a pretty person like you." He complimented, making you turn red. As much as you hated to admit it, your mother was right. Calem was pretty handsome; he managed to keep his style but not overly dedicating himself to it. In fact, he seemed quite unaware of his good looks.

"I-Is there something on my face? Why are you staring at me?" He asked, his face turning pink. You blinked, then giggled nervously.

"Um, no. I just got lost in thought." You said awkwardly. "I just feel I need to thank you somehow, that's all."

"It's okay, you don't have to. Say, do you know that they opened a new café in Lumiose City? I'd like to go there sometime. With you." He said. "Uh, to get to know you and stuff..."

"Sure. As soon as I get discharged from here, we can go." You said, excited. Is this a date? Oh geez, it's a date. It's a date! You thought.

"You know, when I was unconscious, I heard you. I heard your voice." You said. "I think you said something about hanging on. I couldn't hear anything else, though. It... It helped a lot."

"It did?" He asked, surprised. "When I was rescuing you, I just felt I was doing the right thing, but you're special. I think I..." He trailed off, blushing quite a bit. You felt you know what he was going to say, but you didn't push him.

"Er, I'll just tell you later. You could use some rest." Calem finally said.

Slightly disappointing, but you smiled. You laid there silently, breathing steadily as you began to fall asleep. As soon as your eyes closed, you felt a light pressure on your forehead, and then on your lips.

You didn't sleep for the rest of the day.
