the reason her family call her a "he" is because of nanika. they did not acknowledge alluka as a part of the family, they only saw her as "nanika", which is something else. also, "kare" in Japanese can also mean "it", which is the way they saw her, as "something" that's not part of the family. she is biologically a girl. her family just hated her. the only one who acknowledges alluka's existence is killua

no prob. a lot of people make the assumption that just because her family call her a "he", she MUST be transgender..... like 1) you do realise she's a little girl? it would be impossible for her to look like and sound like that at that age if she was biologically a boy. and 2) you do realise her family hates her, right? that's why they call her "he / it". and 3) nanika is NOT the same as alluka! people keep forgetting that. they pretend that alluka doesn't exist, so it IS entirely possible that the "nanika" entity (or Ai if you read the manga) would be referred to as a "he" or "it", because it is not the same person as alluka.
it actually really irritates me when people assume characters are transgender/gay because of something so trivial, ESPECIALLY when that person is a child

assuming that kurapika is a "trans male" not only is an insult to trans men (as 99% of them are muscular and have beards), but is also insulting to naturally feminine-looking boys. the fandom is so cringey sometimes, I hate being part of it.
