Description An alternative to the standard European honey bee...don't know if it is a wild honey or bumble bee...but it sure is fuzzy!

I like this one a lot

I can't even tell you how much I love this. The angle and depth of field on this are so perfect. The bee is beautiful and so are the colors and I think what really makes it 110% is the frame and the way the petals are on top of it. How I would love to be able to do those things!

Amazing job!

thanks so much!

Do you have any of the photoshops? At least PS7 - that's where I started...The frame is easy to do and I've taught several people here on dA

I have Photoshop CS2 but I don't really know how to do much with it. If it doesn't say auto then chances are that I don't know it. I did figure out how to add a layer though and then make a signature brush and boy was I proud of myself!

If you don't mind teaching someone like that then I'd love to learn!

If you know how to make a layer that is a good start! I'll find my instructions and note them to you (and answer your other note in a few )

Thanks for the instructions. I read them over and don't have a clue about half of it but I do have the resources to figure it out so it's a happy day! I have a shot in mind that I'd like to use it on and I'll post it as soon as I have it done. Thank you so much!

well it sure is pretty! Speaking of which... check out this map I found [link] and let me know what zone you are in... for after our August show, I should be ready to send you a surprise

kayaksailor In reply to LadyAliceofOz [2009-07-25 23:43:20 +0000 UTC]

Wheee! I love surpises

It's kind of hard to tell but I think we're zone 9a or 9b...I went on a couple other sites (hoping to find a better breakdown of the area)....and the Sunset Magazine site talked about winter temps and the 9 seemed to fit with them... we don't get too cold for too long in the winter, dipping below freezing at night but always warming up in the day, but the summers can be 100+ for a week at a time... best of luck at your August show

LadyAliceofOz In reply to kayaksailor [2009-07-26 00:24:08 +0000 UTC]

according to what I get... you're in 8A Zone 9 is tropical... and it never freezes

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to LadyAliceofOz [2009-07-26 01:44:33 +0000 UTC]

you got a tropical on the site you gave me? Let's try the Sunset magazine site... I put my zip code in for them...[link] This magazine's headquarters is over near San Francisco...we're in that belt between Sacramento and the higher foothills (where the pine trees are) before being high into Tahoe

flat valley 8 - sage green
me 9 - taupe gray belt (we are east of Sacramento at about 1500 feet elevation)
pines above us 7 - tan
we also get a bit of influence from 14...see that's why I had a hard time choosing!

LadyAliceofOz In reply to kayaksailor [2009-07-26 02:01:40 +0000 UTC]

I didn't get tropical (zone 9 or better).... I got 8A
I don't think there are any zone 14 areas in the U.S. (only goes as high as 11)
Are you sure you went to this site?? [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to LadyAliceofOz [2009-07-26 02:47:44 +0000 UTC]

I did go to that site, but I couldn't see it well enough to figure out where I was so I went looking at other sites, that's when I went to the Sunset Magazing growing zone maps (the link I gave you) now that I'm better aquainted with them I can see that I would be zone 8 on your site...take a look at the one I gave you [link] and you'll see more zones...

LOL >_< Squint!!

I don't know where we live well enough yet...I don't even know what shape this county is!!! And as far a getting glasses - to read I need to take my glasses OFF!

kayaksailor In reply to LadyAliceofOz [2009-07-30 05:51:33 +0000 UTC]

I did about two months ago...I actually wear contancts and I've now got one eye for closeup reading and the other for distance...I was smart and made sure the far eye was the one I use for the cameara view finder that works most of the time...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyAliceofOz In reply to kayaksailor [2009-07-30 07:33:57 +0000 UTC]

OMG!! yeah, I used to wear contacts... from age 16 until about 40 something... then I need bifocals... and the mere thought of only one eye being the close-up one... and the other one being the far away one... no way... way! I've worn trifocals for the last upmteen... and I NEED BOTH of my eyes to be able to see AT THE SAME TIME

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to LadyAliceofOz [2009-07-30 17:08:12 +0000 UTC]

I've needed correction since about 8 for distance and I've worn contacts exclusivly since about 16...I just don't think it is fair that I need glasses to correct the part of my vision that was always good before!!! I know I'll have to give in sometime but this is really working pretty well for now...I think I'll wait until my husband finally gives in and gets reading glasses...(we found a drugstore pair when working on the house last fall and I've noticed him sneaking them to read the newspaper occationally, so it may not be tooooo long )

We had critters chewing on these, too, only these critters are big and have four feet the deer kept sticking their noses through the fence to eat the blooms - I finally had to put another layer of fencing to make the holes too small! Can't blame them too much, with how dry the grass is these flowers must call like doughnuts to a dieter

Great composition and I like the border treatment where you allowed some of the petals to come out in front of it, very 3D'ish.
