Gorgeous shot, Ruth!

I'm a bit envious A Wisteria in bloom - and we have not even daffodils here ...

not even daffodils?!? I am sooo sorry!

I spent an hour this afternoon photographing the hillside full of California poppies we hadn't moved here yet a year ago so we had NO idea we had all these!!! Keep an eye out - I'll be putting a few up tonight

(thanks for the faves, too )

Oh thank you! It was a long winter here this year, and spring has been rather cold and rainy so far. But everything is in starting position, so we only need a few days with sunshine ...

Hey, I'm looking forward to watching your pictures of poppies, Ruth!

Thanks! These are such elegant blooms individually and as a cluster I agree it needs to be full size (I've got it as my wallpaper at the moment and it's lovely )

Pretty... Maybe I will make an arbor here sometime.

this one doesn't take too much work...just the occational tendril trim

ParadigmParadox In reply to kayaksailor [2009-03-14 18:35:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes... I think wisteria is better behaved than some of the other plants I've considered like plumeria or jasmine. I've thought about grapes too.

kayaksailor In reply to ParadigmParadox [2009-03-14 22:00:23 +0000 UTC]

grapes would be good! we had them on our fence and always got quite a few bunches; having them up on something would make it fun to pick - and easier to prune if not too high!

(I don't think you meant plumeria...did you mean honeysuckle?)

ParadigmParadox In reply to kayaksailor [2009-03-16 19:07:16 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I meant plumbago. I have seen people train it as a vine by tying it to supports, and it looks really pretty.

I had to go look that one up...I know which it is now! It has a pretty blue flower with a sticky stem we'd stick them to our braids as kids I've seen it as a kind of bush, but I can see it on an arbor with training...I have a small blob of it in our garden here - it seems to be out of place so it may be a volunteer, but I liked it so I didn't pull it up. It kind of got frost pruned

It is such a pleasant blue. I hope yours stays and grows.

I think I'll keep it small...it's right in between the jasmine on Cait's porch and the wisteria among the roses... but it is a pretty shade

they are a beautiful vine! We missed the flowering last year - found the house before the flowers and by the time we moved in they were over - I've been waiting

Ahhh, the benifits of being in CA. We had snow last week.

kayaksailor In reply to badchess [2009-03-14 17:38:26 +0000 UTC]

lol, there was snow 'near' here, does that count? only about 50 miles and 3000 feet away

we're still getting an occational light morning frost but the days are warming into the upper 60's so everything is popping!
