This looks a lot like the view of where I lived 13 years in Pleasant Hill on a basically dead end street (has since been expanded) at the base of rolling natural park. If we walked to the end of the street and turned right and walked to the end of that very short cul-de-sac, and then up a short rocky road, it took us to the tip top, and it looked much like this, except the middle was flatter, but all around the edges (the winding hills and types of trees) were the same. I see a lot exactly like this where I now live, depending which direction I drive, and how many miles (not too far).

In southern California we lived in an area that was similar to this - the Ojai Valley inland from Ventura, south of Santa Barbara - that was also a rolling hills with the oaks, but here in the Sierra foothills the slopes are steeper which is challenging for my husband when it comes time to do the fire weed clearance LOL! This is the view from our driveway, which is basically the same as from the rear deck

sadly, no...I'd love to hike but our property ends about halfway down and most of this shot is the cattle ranch where they keep the bulls.

ok that does it for me.....you will never see me rolling down that hill. Yhere is a place up in the mountains I want to go hiking but its called rattlesnake gulch for a reason........still want to go tho

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayaksailor In reply to 1001G [2011-07-18 21:12:37 +0000 UTC]

LOL, there's a Rattlesnake Canyon in Santa Barbara too, where I hiked a lot as a teenager - never did see one

We call this little hill "cow hill" - I know we'd be able to avoid riling the bulls but better be safe and stay out - dang it....

kayaksailor In reply to 1001G [2011-07-20 23:07:26 +0000 UTC]

depends on the time of year as to how many are in that section, but there are always some...it is used more during the winter when they've moved a lot of their cattle down from up in the mountains...

kayaksailor In reply to 1001G [2011-07-21 17:21:46 +0000 UTC]

surprisingly no! I'm not sure why, but they don't seem to be around when I'm shooting lol I just looked back in my gallery and I don't have ANY cows shots from our property...only this one [link] which is still the ranch but around the corner a few blocks from us...

Oh.. Lucky one. Must be wonderful to sit there with a cup of coffee in the morning or evening and enjoy the view. Do you have some place there for me? *just kidding* Anyway it's a lovely part of the USA you live in. Love to see more of this location.

kayaksailor In reply to JoergJohannMueller [2011-07-21 17:31:40 +0000 UTC]

We realize how lucky we are And yes it is a wonderful place for the morning coffee and evening breeze! It is an amazingly diverse part of the state with pretty distinct seasons, but not a deep winter - I insisted on staying below the "snow belt" so we only get a couple dustings each winter...

You'll have to wait until our daughter is done with the 'grannie flat' after college, lol...

Here's a link to my gallery of "home shots" [link] all of these are from the house or on/from our property...

It's really a nice location you live in there. I live close to the coast of the north-sea and it also is a nice place to live. Summer isn't too hot but winter can be real cold. Thanks goodness I didn't have problems with the cold. I love it. Best is to do scuba diving under the ice. It's a fantastic view.

So when with the "grannie flat" *just kidding*

Have a nice time there and show more of your wonderful photographs.

Having lived my entire life in California where winter means only below freezing a few nights a year so I know I'd have a whole lot of getting used to where you are! But I think that the houses where winter is deep are hopefully better insulated than mine!

Diving under the ice?! Wow! I've been certified for decades but never thought about doing that Do you have photos?

I just upload one pic I took from below the ice. Not that good quality, because I only have analog camera for underwater-photography.

it is indeed Having spent most of my life on the coast where all we had was the Coastal Live oak, it is really interesting to have 5 or 6 different kinds here in the foothills of the Sierras...some loose their leaves and some don't! Makes for a wonderfully changing view [link]

orinoor In reply to kayaksailor [2011-07-17 17:13:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes, where we live we have both the deciduous and evergreen oaks, along with maples. Our place also has 4 Sequoia we planted, one of them is already over 20 feet tall.

kayaksailor In reply to orinoor [2011-07-21 19:26:02 +0000 UTC]

ohh, then you get more fall color than we do immediately around me...a bit further up the into the mountains they have more of the deciduous oak which are pretty along with wild dogwood, sycamore and such...cool about your Sequoia! I'd like to plant a grove but I think we're really too hot and dry during the summers...
