I imagined that this is Gon around 22-23 years old. My head cannon is that at this age Gon will be working as an Archaeological/Magical Beast Hunter. It should take years for the Association to finish exploring the Dark Continent (I mean, Don Freecss has been exploring it for hundreds of years, right?) And that they would eventually send out more Hunters to continue the work.

That way, even if Gon doesn't travel out on the Black Whales this time around, he'll still get there.

And once he does get there, I think that Beyond will have his own organization set up and exploring with the help of Ging. So if Ging were helping Beyond, and Gon was with the Hunter Association, they would end up in a sort of competition. That seems like the most perfect situation for them.

Gon and Ging have a unique relationship. Ging wants Gon to be strong and independent - and Gon looks up to Ging, but not as a father figure. But they both still have their own ways of caring about each other.

Plus, with Gon working for the Association, he would also be with Kurapika and Leorio, and that would be awesome.

Between where the story is now and this head cannon of mine, I imagine that Gon dedicates his time to restoring his Nen, and retracing Ging's steps. I want him to figure out about Don Freecss on his own - because I am pretty sure that is why Ging wants to go to the Dark Continent so bad - to locate Don. So once Gon figures out what he has to do, I think he'd just work on getting stronger and learning more and more about the world. For the majority of Hunter X Hunter, Gon is very naive as to how the world actually works. That's one thing that I dislike about the series - that the whole thing so far happens over the span of less than 2 years, and Gon is still a child in most ways.

Anyway, I've always wanted to do my own fanfics and headcannons, but now that all the new material has been released, I just don't know where to start. It's much too epic for my brain to handle. I could never do it justice!
