"I am yours, as you are mine. And if we die we'll die, but first we'll live."

Ygritte is my favourite character in the Song of Ice and Fire series, both the novels and the television series. I love her character and I think that Rose Leslie played her very well. She portrayed her exactly as I envisioned while reading the series, and the scene of her death brought me to tears like a Disney film does. She is a beautiful woman and I couldn't wait to create a drawing of her.

I tried several different methods in this drawing, the first drawing I have attempted on my new sketchbook paper by Strathmore. I really enjoy using a pre-existing background colour, it created an opportunity to explore values of extreme dark and light from a colour other than white. I tried minimal use of flesh tone pencil crayons after an intriguing conversation with my colleague. So I focused on using warm colours, also because of her beautiful red hair. It wanted it somewhat reflected in her skin and from her freckles. This was also the first time I have used a gel pen in my artwork. I have been researching other artists more than creating right now, learning is a constant effort that I feel is very important. I learned many things from this drawing, using so many techniques may have altered this drawing from my usual artwork but I am happy with the overall result.

There were many stunning reference photos of Rose Leslie during the filming of Game of Thrones, but the one I used as a reference for this drawing is my favourite.
