Description Assignment: To express Impressionistic style in a Still Life painting. Using one or two reference photos of work by a master impressionist. One refference should inspire color technique and scheme, the other should inspire brush and stroke technique. Work from actual still life scene to be set up in studio by the proffessor.

I chose Still Life With Apples by Paul Cezanne as reference for both color and brush technique. I chose this particular painting because I loved the jade green he uses throughout the piece, and the way it is reflected in all things. I attempted this same idea by highlighting and shading areas with a similair color. The color combination is not something I would have thought of myself, however I enjoy the way it results.

Done in approx. 9 hrs. Oil on Canvas, 20x24" Lemon Detail

I really like how you chose the color scheme for this painting!!! In terms of advanced critique, *thinks for a moment*, I noticed the block where the fruit is sitting on seems to be a little splotchy (I can't spell) It kind of looks like there are feathers coming out of the side of the block. I'd thought I'd point it out. Still, It is a really good painting!!! Keep it up

thank you. The bottom half of the painting has been stressful for me because I feel like theres nothing I can do with it, I tried to make it a little multitonal so that it didnt look to bland down there. One thing aboutimpressionism is that they make it look as if the composition was just impulsive rather then well thought out and planned. So there are lots of empty spaces, I dont know what to do with them.

I am sorry I have no Advanced Critique for you :"( but i want to make it clear that I really think you did a great job with it and I didnt just say that, I meant it. I also would like to honestly say... that I sincerely think you have a great deal of artistic talent and that I am sure you will have tons of success in whatever field you decide to go into. haha, not worth that much coming from me I imagine but just incase no one lets you know... you are talented.

(Your pinky did a great job on the stem by the way ^-^ )

:] you dont have to have an advanced critique. I just wanted to encourage ideas for change if anyone had them. And your wrong it does mean a lot. I want to continue and improve, I need encouragement sometimes. I hope you know how great a supportive friend is.
