Description

  Rubbing the sore spots of her muscles after another grueling match, Effie was approached for an interview. Carol Swift, host of Reef Report and in the know on all things wrestling, came up to her with a mic in hand and a glint in her eyes. Effie had an incredulous look on her face. Was she about to be interviewed? About wrestling? For TV? It was a massive honor.

  “Ms. Rook, any comment on your recent matches?”

  Effie could practically feel her muscles ache just remembering them. They were rough fights, and she didn’t pull out a win in the end in any of them.

  She fought the masked wrestler, Axolotl. It was a fairly even bout. Effie got her hits in, but Axolotl got more of her own. The fight came to an end when Effie was on the top ropes. The plan was to jump off and hit Axolotl with her finisher, but Axolotl countered it before she could. She got up on the top ropes as well, and sent Effie crashing all the way back down to the mats with a Hurricanrana. The move left Effie dazed on the mat. The last thing she saw was Axolotl above her, dropping down with a sudden leg drop. The leg drop easily transitioned into Axolotl pinning Effie by sitting on her face while doing the splits. It wasn’t even until the ref did the three count that anyone noticed that Effie was KO’d.

  Then there was her fight with Aman, which was brutal to say the least. Aman was strategic and knew that Effie’s high flying style made her speed, hips, and legs her most dangerous weapons. To counter this, Aman would trap Effie into submission after submission, specifically ones that targeted Effie’s legs and back. Torture Racks, Bow and Arrow Holds, Figure Four Leglocks, Backbreakers. Aman showed no mercy, and Effie wasn’t strong enough to break out of these submissions. By the end when Effie was locked into a Boston Crab, it became clear her options were either tap out, or get broken in half. Effie tried to hold out for as long as she could, but with her feet tapping the back of her head, and all the submissions before this one making this Boston Crab feel a hundred times more intense, she had no choice but to tap out. Aman took the victory, and Effie took the coldest, longest ice bath she could.

  After that was her fight with Pegasus. Effie felt the most sore about this fight. She’s not a sore loser. It helps more to learn how you can do better next time than to dwell on previous matches. That being said, this one tested Effie on just that. Effie almost won. Her high-flying style was too much for Pegasus to keep up with. Move after move, Effie kept up an unrelenting pace. After a particularly strong Peach Bomb, Effie went for the pin. She only got to two though before she was interrupted. A hand grabbed her by the ankle and pulled her away, breaking the pin. Effie looked back and saw Pegasus’ butler, Fusilier. The ref got up to tell the butler to leave, but before she could, Pegasus got up to argue with the ref. That’s why Effie went over to him. If the ref couldn’t, then she’d tell him that this was between her and Pegasus and that he should respect that. His job was to serve Pegasus though, no matter what he had to do to aid her. That’s why he slammed a steel chair right over Effie’s head. The strike had Effie’s world spinning. She stumbled back towards Pegasus, making it all too easy for Pegasus to pick Effie up and slam her to the mat with a piledriver. Effie was unconscious the instant her head hit the mat. Pegasus gave Effie’s limp body a furious look for nearly making her look bad by stealing a win from her like that.

  Finally, there was her most recent match. This match was a complete, utter squash. Her opponent was the towering Oarfish. Most people could see where this fight was going to go from the size difference alone, but Effie didn’t let that stop her from fighting Oarfish. Or at the very least, trying to fight her. Oarfish could lift Effie like it was nothing, making it all too easy for her to put Effie into bearhugs, to do Gorilla Presses and Spinebusters, and hit her with a massive Chokeslam. The brutal display was only prolonged by the fact that every time Oarfish went to pin Effie, Effie would get back up. No matter how much agony her body was in, Effie would keep getting back up. Oarfish grew tired of this, and decided to put a definitive end to this fight. She lifted Effie up and locked her into a sleeperhold. Effie’s feet couldn’t even reach the ground as she struggled and eventually passed out in Oarfish’s arms.

  Her losing streak would be discouraging to most. Effie didn’t see it that way though. Looking to Carol Swift with stars in her eyes, Effie told her exactly what she thought about these recent matches.

  “I may lose today, but I can win tomorrow!”
