Description This is Kahara. A 2 year old Tahitian girl that has pretty much captured my heart here in Tahiti. Not just because she is an awesome little kid that will help keep me from dying being away from my own lovely daughter, but mostly because she is the only person that I can talk French too

So she is trying to ride her tricycle and not doing so well...pushing as hard as she can little does she realize their is a stick in her back right tire...I am going through some pictures of the moon I took last night and getting ready to switch back all of the settings when she lodges everything free but LUNGES forward and smacks her head against something and is totally distraught by the whole thing...she looks up at me across the garden and without even thinking my hand is already going up with camera to take the shot...i got one shot off before she ran inside to her mom crying

The settings were still set for the moon...and thus all the grain...it was shot at 1600 ISO and I spun the wheel as fast as I could to darken it...hense the cool effect...I dont think I could have gotten this if I tried again...although you can better believe I will try again...contrast boosted by +11, and a slight curve contrast also done for the midtones...I wish I would have cropped the picture wider and i have NO CLUE what the hell that thing is around her ear...but true to most of my other photographs I wont touch it

I hate trying to decide which category to place these photographs in. Its a picture of a crying kid, taken at the spur of the moment and lucky enough to capture exactly how i wanted. Although she is crying its not a faked angst at not being able to cut herself so I avoided emotive photographs. Granted she is a kid its such a grown up situation I didnt want it to be wasted with the other kid shots every parent takes and thinks is the best. Because everything was so spontaneous and was what made it extremely special I decided on Spontaneous Portraits.

Couldn't help but just stare at this shot (for lack of a better word..."stare" implies too much of a passive tone).

It's been said, but she is beauty.

Yes she was....thank you for the kind words

I was lucky to capture so great of a shot in a moment that will never be repeated...I hope I have done her justice...even if for that special moment she and I shared

Little do you know...this girl is in for a rough life ahead of her...she is going to escape from her current tumultous and ignored existance with this beauty...and its going to be her downfall as well.

her tear is my tear...not at scraping a knee...but at the travesty you see coming towards a child and not being able to do anything about stopping it

lovely captured taking into concideration that you had a second to change camera settings from taking photos of the moon

And good story about Kahara. She is really lovely. I am sure after 5 minutes she was smiling and will smile in the future browsing her portraits

By the way, i would suggest to change the category to "Emotive portraits" as in "Spontaneous portraits" there is a "mess".

Not sure what you mean by "mess"...but I took your suggestion and moved it...I wouldnt want this incredible girl involved with "the mess"

THank you for the favorite as well...you are an angel.

Very good job on this. She may even have forgiven you for taking her picture while she was still in tears.
