I picked up my camera today and I just photographed . Anything and everything, leaves, dogs, flowers, twigs...whatever. It was so refreshing. If you've not taken a photo lately, just do it. It'll remind you how much you missed it, and how much you're going to do more of it now for the next little while.

Your caption. I really needed to be reminded. My father passed away very suddenly and completely out of nowhere 49 days ago. Over the past week, I have been taking photos on my phone, but I really should just get my camera out of its dusty bag and do that. It's very healing for some reason. I also wanted to mention that you've always been an inspiration to me. I remember finding your blog one year when you were doing a 365 Project and just thinking, "This girl is phenomenal." And some of your photos that year weren't "spectacular" per se, but that you took one EVERY day and stuck with it really impressed me, because I never make it more than a few weeks in a 365 project. And there you were, dealing with a lot of stress and sadness (if I recall correctly?), and you made yourself get up everyday and take manage to take, choose and edit a photo for your Photo-a-day. And it really inspired me. I've followed your work every since. I usually view in the shadows and quietly add to favorites and such, but I really wanted to say thank you for your caption on this photo. And thanks for your gorgeous photography. You truly are phenomenal.

Sometimes we just need that small reminder, and often it can be found absolutely anywhere. I'm glad that you found yours here. I'm truly sorry to hear of your loss though, a loved one passing away suddenly and completely out of nowhere is one of my biggest, hugest fears. I like to think that because of that fear, I try and preserve those moments a little bit more and love that I can do that with photography. I can't imagine how you are feeling.
I use my 'real' camera too rarely these days, so you've reminded me to get it out again and do the same. The phone is great for snapping those moments but there's something more pure about setting up a shot a little more carefully with a bit more attention to detail, in my case anyway. Thank you so much for your kind words, I didn't realise you were in the shadows! I did the 365 challenge a couple of times and I think that both times, I was doing it to work through sadness and tough times. Both years were positive in their own ways, and challenging in others. I was supposed to be doing the 52 week challenge this year but it didn't quite stick. I'm sure I took photos every week but I haven't thought about them or blogged them!

It feels SO GOOD to take photos just because. When I hold my camera, I get a feeling of calm that very few other things in the world bring me...that feeling of "This is exactly what I'm supposed to be doing"
