Downward Spiral is honestly one of my favourite albums because of the raw depiction of that sort of mental breakdown.

Exactly. Trent Renzor poured a lot of his own traumas and emotions into making the music for that album, and it really shows. At the time of making that album too, he was struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.
