Not only is she not used to people actually loving her back, but she knows Shadow's past, and because she could sympathize with his loss so strongly, she can't even imagine loving someone again if someone important to her had died like that.It's one of the many reasons why she thinks that Shadow can never actually true-to-the-heart love her.
