Gerbils, I will always have a soft spot for them!
When I was little we had to gerbils, although, I can't remember their names I do remember calling them "Germans" as I could not say gerbil, anyway one day I come running into the kitchen, screaming "mummy mummy the gerbils eating my finger" and my mum turns around and there I am with a gerbil hanging of my finger, and the thing is covered in my blood!
