Have you tried using a CPL filter on this shot?

In case you haven't used one, a Circular Polarizer Lens will reduce, or eliminate the reflective glare on the water. Depending on how much you apply it (by rotating the filter), you can reduce the glare to where it looks more like sparkles on the water.

The picture is beautiful as it is and I it. I'm just curious if it could be shot to get those few sparkles, or stars reflecting off of the rippling water.

You know, I took that picture so long ago, maybe two or three years ago? Can't be sure. But anyway, it was with a dinky point 'n shoot camera. So now that I have a camera that I can actually do that with I surely will try in the spring.

Thank you for the comment! New ideas and different techniques are greatly appreciated. I'm glad you like it!

If you have the skills, know enough about composition, you can get a good picture out of almost any camera. The fancier cameras only make it easier to do.

About 34 thousand years ago, I was in Cobh Ireland. I had an opportunity to take some photographs in a setting very much like yours. In fact, that was where I thought it was, at first.

The only thing that I do not like about it is the coldness of the blue in the water contrasts to the warm yellows and oranges of the majority of the picture.

Don't take that as bad. I lean towards warmer tones so much that if I were to shoot a snowman, it'd turn out a golden yellow. The colors in the picture contrast nicely. So why not have tonal contrast as well? (Why? Cause I hate cold, that's why!) Err, was that out loud? Sorry.

I am sure that you will find many more people who like the warm and cold tones in one shot, than me who does not care for it. And that is my opinion, and as such, may not mean a whole heck of a lot.

Have I dug my hole deep enough yet? Can I go now? Thanks.

It's a great shot. I it. Just suggesting try the CPL and see how that turns out.

Yes, that's very true. You can take a great picture with any camera...but you can't put filters on certain cameras either.

Well, I'm sorry this picture makes you cold and I couldn't make it warmer for you. (it was fall after all)

Don't be sorry. That is my interpretation, my opinion. I may be the odd man out, and the only one who see it that way. No matter what I think, you managed to show contrast on two levels. Visually with colors of the over all scene, and emotionally with the tonal contrast. Very good work. Keep in mind that I'm not happy unless it is at least 70 degrees. Anything below that, and there's no pleasing me.

Good point about the filters. One thing you can try is to put 8 little "dots" of silicone sealer (aquarium sealer) around the edged of your lens, lens tube (let them dry). You can hold a filter against these dots and it wont scratch the lens and the lens does not slide around on them. Not the best solution, but it does allow the use of basic filters on a camera that, otherwise, could not take filters.

If I came across as insulting the picture, I apologize. That was not my intent. I was only trying to give you my perspective on it so you would know what the picture said to "ME" (not everyone). And to offer a different way to look at the scene. If I did not like it, it would not be in my faves.

Keep taking pictures the way you are, there's noting wrong with them.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, my friend. You did not insult me at all!
