It's nearly the end of summer 2010 and now I'm actually posting something! Months of absence and a digital painting hiatus have finally spit out this!

Lo and behold, Rena is back! -->[link] ...with a name change (spelling-wise), new back story, and revamped design! Oh yes, those are new and improved tubeworms, and I still think they're eerily beautiful.

This should explain what's new:

"In my world, women who commit crimes are punished severely. They are cursed—forced to live away from society and with no hope of ever returning—by banishing them to the ocean forever. The women here are brokenhearted. They sing for the loves they have lost every day until they forget who they were. Nothing is left but lust and desire. That’s why there are monsters in the ocean called mermaids. They are sirens that draw men to them with their voices. They drag them deep under the water as they sing ballads of love and loss.
I will never sing so long as I am here. If I sing, I will forget too. Dancing helps me to remember who I was. It’s not so cold around the vents. The heat reminds me of the faraway sun, and the tubeworms are like the tall flowers from my family’s garden. There’s still beauty here. I try to tell myself it’s not so bad…
But every day I think of him, I miss him more. There must be a way back to the surface. My fiancé was horrid enough to cast me to the darkest depths of the ocean. I cannot go far up before the pressure relief makes me feel dizzy and faint."

Basically, she fell in love with a sailor, who was not her betrothed (chosen by her parents). He found out and had a magus curse her with the common punishment in her fictional world.
She finds her way to the surface again eventually, but I'm not sure if she'll get her happy ending. Her story isn't done yet.
