this is for the FEZ contest. it was only a warm up sketch initially, and i was going to move on to my final character, but i decided to work on it a bit more... especially as i only came across the contest a few days ago.pencils: 2-3 hours

Cool design! I like the congruent shapes. I notice a lot of your free-form drawings tilt to the left. Are you a leftie?

haha, no, actually i only recently became aware of the tilting recently... i'm not sure why. i usually put down the first angled lines, then tilt the paper and do the drawing, soon forgetting about the proper alignment. maybe it's a subconscious rebellion against the page format, lol.

the bust area is really cool, but I'm not a fan of his pose and staff design(obviously it's not finished).

i see... yes, the staff was an incomplete impression of shapes that never quite crystallized. finishing this is unlikely now, tho. i'm more concerned with using it as a base for painting practice... but finding the right kind of technique is proving difficult.
