My part of an art trade I have with of her character Shayle.Since it's very hard for me to work digital lately (especially since I don't have a decent table yet) I got inspired to do some watercolour painting. c: And so this happened. I'm very pleased with how some parts of this turned out. I chickened out in foliage, and didn't want to ruin (haha see what I did there) it, and so I kept it as simple as possible.
The character itself is an updated more reptilian version of ~Autlaw 's character, and I greatly improvised on her colours. I hope you don't mind!
This took me about...6 hours about, with watercolour paint, black sharpie pen and some gel pens for detail. As usual, the scanner eats those vibrant colors. In real life, it is really bright and some spots are shiny. c:

whaobro this is amazing! watercolor is always a pain in the ass for me, i can never dare to make a fullout piece with that media. You pretty much handled things welll, i like how you were able to create that distance with the background colors.
and the character, doiawmdoawd, is really well drawn. The feathers on his head look great :'D

It is, but I love working with it. Besides the white part, watercolors are very forgiving. Plus I think it gives you a lot more room for artistic freedom. Unlike acrylics. Oh god do I hate acrylics.
But thank you so much! I'm really glad you like it. I haven't worked with it in awhile, so I felt a bit rusty. But overall I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Oh woah, I'm really glad you love it! I was worried I didn't get her character or colors too right, and the design overall is sort of a combination between all the sketches you had. But I guess in the end in worked out. c:
I absolutely love watercolors. The ruins were a bit of a challenge as I know you said it to be somewhat of a Venetian city, but you can tell I heavily improvised. XD
And you are very welcome! She was very fun to draw, I must say.
Also, if you'd like, I can ship you the original? It looks so much better! I mean as long as you can cover the shipping costs (which if you don't live to far, it shouldn't be much...).

I sure do ! <3 Watercolors were the first media I worked with when starting with art in a serious way so it has some kind of emotional value for me to see her in watercolors :]

It shouldn't be too much because it's a very light paper. As soon as I know the cost, I'll tell you and you let me know if that's manageable for you?

wow, this is so pretty! i have so much trouble with water color, its not even funny. the only thing i can paint with it is abstract now. XD seriously, though, this is great. I love how colorful and detailed it is! i don't blame you for missing a spot, i would be excited to post this too!! (i just hope you didn't hurry so much that it went into the scanner wet. XD)

I think out of all the types of paint, watercolor is the most versatile. Granted, the color white is not a very easy color to get back once it's gone on the paper, but you can always mix other mediums with it. Plus the fact that has layers and its own texture, makes it even better for me.
You just have to get used to it! It's no so bad once you keep practicing. c:
I fixed it now, but it still looks out of place, to me anyway. And naah, I let it dry for a bit before putting it into the scanner. Watercolor dries relatively fast actually.

yeah..keep in mind that was two years ago. XD i just don't own any watercolors..so i don't use them. but i do have some water color pencils somewhere. somewhere. XD
