Description
Name: Stef'n (STEF-en)
Family Name: Stef’n Levada (STEF-en Leh-VAH-duh)
Age: 35
Height: 6' 5"
Gender: Male
Orientation: Asexual
Occupation: Geneticist
Affiliation: “Loyalist”- (doesn’t particularly care for the Empire, but doesn’t want to oppose it)
From: New Asakai Baellis (commonly known as New Asa-Bae), Northern Hemisphere of Planet Irk
Current Residence: Irken Capitol City, West District, Planet Irk
Language: Fluent in New Asa-Bae’s native dialect of Irken as well as Standardized Irken
Personality:
Stef’n is introverted and has a very short social battery. Outside of friends (Sam and Rue) and family, he doesn’t like to interact with other people if he can help it. He thinks big cities (like the one he currently resides in) are disgusting hellscapes and that self-checkout lines at grocery stores are the greatest invention since sliced bread. If he could, he’d move to a little cottage in the mountains and never be heard from again. He hates parties, can’t stand the taste of alcohol, and the thought of potentially having to go on a date sounds like the worst thing imaginable.
For strangers: Stef’n isn’t necessarily rude to people but he’ll make it pretty clear if he doesn’t want to talk to you or if you’re bothering him. If he DOES come off as grumpy/angry, 9 times out of 10 he just needs a snack and a nap. He never likes to start conversations, and generally won’t speak unless spoken to. He minds his own business and prefers to observe quietly. Because of this, combined with his height and resting bitch face, he’s gained a reputation for being scary and/or intimidating and wants to keep it that way. The fewer people he has to deal with, the better.
For friends/family or anyone he is somewhat familiar with: Stef’n loves making quick witted and clever jokes about himself and others (mostly about himself) and loves to share random facts he thinks are cool. He swears like a sailor and tends to get a little too excited when talking about any subject he’s passionate about (pepper plants, his favorite movies/hobbies). Tends to be brutally honest, and if he thinks you are making a really stupid decision or being uselessly dramatic he will absolutely say so. He will give sincere and helpful advice if asked, but tries to stay out of personal conflicts. He might seem to wave off relationships like they don’t mean much to him or even in a joking manner, but in reality he is fiercely loyal and is absolutely the guy to call if you ever need to bury a body.
Hobbies/Interests:
Reading, gardening (pepper plants), listening to/playing music (plays violin and piano), eating chocolate/snacks, collecting vintage items or photos, and sleeping.
Skills:
-Has extensive medical knowledge and is very talented as a field medic. Was mentored by his dad and had 4 years of experience in the military.
-Proficient with a long rifle. Has trained with handguns, but is much more comfortable with rifles.
-Expert Violinist and Pianist, was taught by his mother from an early age.
-Can sleep for a whole week if left alone
Not-So-Skillz:
-Tends to trip over his own feet and accidentally throw things on reflex (usually pens).
-Has some hearing loss in his left antenna and has a hard time figuring out which direction a sound came from and sometimes has trouble with low frequency sounds (like deep voices).
-Has anxiety and occasionally has panic attacks. Triggers include: Nausea (feeling like he has to throw up), heavily populated areas/lack of personal space, public speaking or anything that might involve a large group of people focusing solely on him.
-Is a VERY picky eater and can’t stand to have different foods touch on his plate. Thinks sectioned plates are a godsend.
-Is an absolute disaster in the kitchen and has mostly survived off of take out and snack foods for the last decade. (With the exception of a few baked goods and candy recipes that his parents taught him)
Background:
Stef’n was born and raised in New Asa-Bae, on the smaller rural island of Asakai. He grew up near the shore with his parents, Kelvan and Sabara, and younger brother Skat (Ka’el) during the Imperialization of Irk under Tallests Viska and Emerah. Despite the Imperialization, the only memorable event from his childhood was an incident where he got caught up in some barbed wire while out exploring with his brother, which resulted in a torn left antenna and a lot of stitches. His dad tried to distract him by teaching him how to take care of the wounds and, as a result, inspired Stef’n to take an interest in the medical profession.
Stef’n spent years studying medicine and learning the practice from his dad until he turned 15 and joined the military as a field medic. He graduated with academic honors and was stationed locally, but was deployed to planet Vort to provide aid during a civil war when he was 18. Afterward, he hoped to never visit Vort ever again.
After returning home from Vort, Stef’n found his brother Skat to be increasingly troubled and distant. New controversial laws and increased military presence on the islands had sparked civil unrest and rumors of resistance groups forming. After some convincing, Skat eventually confided in Stef’n that he was sympathetic to the resistance. Stef’n told him that, while he understood his frustrations, it was best to leave well enough alone and that starting an uprising (or even worse, a war) was nowhere near worth the trouble and bloodshed it would cause. For nearly six months, Skat seemed to drop the subject and return to his normal self, even going out of his way to be helpful and bring Stef’n food during lunch breaks.
Little did Stef’n know, Skat had been using him to learn the schedules and rotations of guards at his base and any additional information he could get to feed back to the resistance. Once they felt confident enough, Skat and his group cornered Stef’n and forced him to give them access to the weapons supply room and a cruiser to escape in. While the group was loading the cruiser with supplies, Stef’n managed to escape just long enough to trigger an alarm. Military squads arrived within moments and the members of Skat’s group that were already on board (including Skat) fled, leaving Stef’n and several other members behind.
Stef’n and the others were taken into custody and questioned. Stef’n vehemently denied any involvement with the group (besides knowing his brother of course) and claimed he knew nothing about their plot. The members of the resistance group denounced the Empire and were sentenced to deactivation, effective immediately. Unnerved by this news, Stef’n demanded a trial and after several weeks of deliberation his request was granted.
In his trial, Stef’n again denied any knowledge or involvement. After reviewing the evidence Tallests Viska and Emerah believed him, but ultimately felt he was still responsible for allowing the resistance to not only learn valuable information about their military but also gain access to a secure base, steal supplies, and escape. Viska considered a life-sentence but Emerah insisted that he was just too tall to waste and that perhaps he could prove himself useful to them. They agreed and offered Stef’n a deal: He’d be sentenced to prison for 10 years, perhaps less, if he would seek out any resistance sympathizers within the prison system, gain their trust, and relay any information back to them. He agreed immediately.
Stef’n was sent to prison and, for the next two years, systematically offered up the names of nearly 50 resistance sympathizers and hundreds of pages of information on their connections and whereabouts. By this time, the sympathizers had begun to suspect Stef’n and his work came to a standstill. The Tallests were ultimately impressed and offered to release him (with parole) if he agreed to reassignment. Eager to get out of prison, Stef’n begrudgingly agreed and was reassigned to Civilian Class and sent to Irk’s Capitol City to begin studying in the field of genetic engineering.
Stef’n hated the city and being separated from his family, but found some solace in befriending his highly energetic parole officer, Rue, who was more than delighted to help him navigate his new surroundings and teach him the language (including all the fun curse words). Over the next few years, Stef’n completed his studies, got his start as a Geneticist’s assistant, and by the age of 30 he opened his own lab with some help from Rue. Stef’n enjoyed working alone for the first two years, but eventually he had trouble keeping up with the work. By chance, Rue met Sam, a nice young fellow fresh out of school looking for an assistant position, and convinced Stef’n to hire him. The three of them forged a strong friendship and for the first time in over a decade, Stef’n feels like maybe his life is making a turn for the better.
Extra Fun Facts! (notes from the creator!):
-He has no PAK legs or anything other weaponized PAK functions because he went to prison and obviously allowing prisoners to have them is 10/10 bad idea.
- Stef’n’s eyes have always been dark red rather than black, but for a lot of years I colored them black (with only subtle hints of red) in most of my art because I loved the high contrast. Obviously, I’ve veered away from that in recent years.
-Stef’n was originally intended to be an alternate Irkensona for myself! My sona Kee used to be depicted as more upbeat and reflected how I present myself online most of the time, which is a much more cheerful image than what I generally am in real life. Yep, that’s right! Kee is secretly a grumpy bump on a log that expresses her feelings better through text. The alternate sona idea didn’t last long though, and I ended up liking him much more as his own character. He still carries a LOT of my own personality traits, but he’s his own now. v v <3
-Stef’n and his occupation were largely inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein! It’s absolutely one of my favorite novels and I can’t get enough of Gothic themes and wildly dark and dramatic characters. :’D Stef’n’s little brother Ka’el/Skat was even originally named Viktor before I did some massive rewrites a few years ago.

Note:
For anyone who is curious, no, my OC’s do not exist within the canon IZ universe (obviously lol). My own universe is based solely on my personal interpretation of the IZ universe. My universe also exists much earlier than canon IZ, probably by a few centuries. For explanation, Invader ZIM supposedly takes place in an apocalyptic future and my universe is more or less an exploration of how Irken society might have gotten to where it is as we see it in canon IZ, but with my own twists of course. c:
Feel free to ask me any questions in case I missed anything! <3
