You should really credit the original artist for the water flame background [link]

They shouldn't have made this manipulation in the first place. The original is not stock, which makes this theft. (Unless they have permission, which I highly doubt seeing that the original has been stolen time and time again.)

You should really credit the original artist for the water-flame background you pasted this grotesquely cut out hand over.

so, would you like some tips, or constructive criticism?

if not, i really like the water in the pic, and the idea for the pic itself.

aight, well in my opinion, the hand has rough edges where it was selected. And what i usually do to select human shapes such as hands and such, (which may take a little more time), is to use the pen tool and get familiar with it for making selections. This is a good way because the body usually follows mathematical curves like the pen tool does.

Then what i would do, is once you have it selected go to Quick-mask mode. When in there make it so that the hand is visible and the background about to be removed is a color close to what the new background will be or a blue to contrast the hand. Then use the paint, dodge, smudge, burn, and blur tools with your own knowledge and style to make the hand look more naturally selected if there is any pixelation. But be cautious, too much blur on the edge of the hand will look really fake.

But when it comes to hands, the pen tool alone should be good enough without the Quick-mask mode.

Then for finalization, you take the hand and use a very soft smallish-mediumish brush for dodging and burning different edges of the hand to make it look more realistic compared to the background.

I hope this helps you at all, or makes sense.
