Description I made this map back in November 2018, when it was posted elsewhere by me when I stumbled upon the '12 nations' map challenges to create 12 different iterations of the same region/nation. I settled for Greece. I had a writeup for this a long time ago, but I lost it long ago since the shutdown of Google+, so most of it has been rewritten on May 2021, though it was easily recognisable on what ideology, government or theme I had in mind three years ago.

You can use these basic prompts for a more fleshed out backstory or a world derived from it. I don't really have a plan to use either of those in my more recent projects (plus a few are just generic what-ifs like a post-apocalyptic scenario or an irredentist scenario), which I decided to keep it away for the time being.

From top left to bottom right (A1 to C4):
(A1) OTL Greece
(A2) Kingdom of Byzantium: irredentist
(A3) Satrapy of Greece: vassalage
(A4) Magna Graecia: colonial
(B1) Greek Technocratic Directive: technocratic
(B2) Yugoslavia: autonomous socialist republic
(B3) Free City of Constantinople: city-state
(B4) Atlantis: government-in-exile
(C1) Minoa: primitive kingdom
(C2) Post-Apocalyptic Greece: nuclear post-apocalyptic region
(C3) Collective of Eastern Mediterranean: alien subject state
(C4) Kingdom of Greece: 'plausible' irredentist

(A2) Kingdom of Byzantium
If the Eastern Roman Empire survived or the Megali Idea went true.

(A3) Satrapy of Greece
Basically if the Greco-Persian Wars went to the victory of the Achaemenid dynasty.

(A4) Magna Graecia
Not much to say about this, aside from being a collective of Greek city-states on the Italian peninsula being invaded by the Romans.

(B1) Greek Technocratic Directive (Technate)
Greece eventually transitioned into a technocratic government in the mid-21st century through a succession of elections and the result of a technological singularity around that time.

(B2) Greek Autonomous Socialist Republic (part of Yugoslavia)
If Josip Broz Tito's plans with Greece come true somehow. (Basically a greater Socialist Republic of Macedonia [FYROM/North Macedonia])

(B3) Free City of Constantinople
The Roman Empire ('Byzantium') survived the Ottoman siege of the city with a bit of preparation in place, though its monarchy eventually got overthrown by revolutionaries in the 18th century to install a republic in place. The city in the 19th century acts as a neutral area for traders sailing through the Bosphorus Strait, though the Ottomans continue to make its dominant presence over the Sea of Marmara and even the Black Sea noticeable.

(B4) Roman Empire ('Atlantis')
With a similar POD as above, except that Constantinople fell like OTL, Greeks within Constantinople fled to the west in large ships to establish an exiled government in the New World in the 16th century.

(C1) Minoa
A very advanced version of the ancient Minoan civilisation.

(C2) Post-Apocalyptic Greece
A nuclear war happened in the early 1970s during the Cold War that obliterated Europe, including Greece, resulting in the eventual rise of small communities that tried to rebuild a functional system.

(C3) Collective of the Eastern Mediterranean
An alien civilisation subjugates humanity into governmental zones that the aliens find easy to poke humans around. One of them is the Eastern Mediterranean Collective, where no-one liked to be under (just like all other puppet collectives set up by the aliens)

(C4) Kingdom of Greece
How Greece could've ended up with more land in a more 'plausible' context.
