It's a work in progress.I wanted to try and do a painting more in the lines of the Orientalist painters of the late 19th century. It's taking me longer than I planned, but I have been reworking the layout of the soldiers in the pit.
I thought why not post it anyways at this unfinished stage.
Also, the head in the bottom right was inspired by one of the photos I found on Deviant. Sorry..don't recall the source...I may amend the text if I come across the photo again.

I do plan to finish it for sure, and have done some work to it since I posted, but other things and projects keep coming up. It will get done! I am curious to see the final outcome too.

I know the feeling! Oh how I envy the 14 yr old me that had all sorts of time to make up all sorts of crazy projects and inventions... And I look at how time flies now, and I wonder, jeebus... how the hell did I pull all that stuff off? Oh... right, no bills, no house, no job, just school - in which I'd spend loads of time drawing anyway.
Anyway, I look forward to it, man!

Thanks Abishay...Still needs work, and things will change with it as it progresses and I get all the characters in there. Once it's laid out, I'll concentrate on the light and darks more in the scene...grounding the characters in it and putting in more details here and there. Hopefully it's fun to see where it progresses from here.

Looking good so far. I think it needs more and darker shadows though, at the moment it's a bit flat and the characters seem a bit out of touch with the scenery. I'm sure you'll get there though, seeing it's just a work in progress. Keep it up.

You're right. I will be adding more to the scene...and there aren't any shadows really being cast by the characters onto the background at the moment which is causing them to float. I may keep posting this one as it moves along. Please keep letting me know what you think.
Once I gey al the characters in there and the weapons, I'll start to punch up the light and dark areas overall. Although I like the sky, I am certain that will have to be lightened for the overall composition.
