Description at long last.... some description of how i made this costume! (and so can you!)

for starters. you need to get yourself some base clothes. I started with a leather jacket, pleater pants, pleather boots, a cotton shirt (tripp brand) and some leather gloves just for fun.

-step 1-
make everything fit. I altered the jacket to fit me and stop mid-torso. I also took the sleeves off the shirt (and took it in for size... i think it was a mens shirt).

-step 2-
make it tron!! this is up to your interpretation. I covered my boots with leather scraps from my jacket to eliminate the heel look.

-step 3-
this is the fun part. first and foremost, if you don't have a disk by now, get one. then cut out the middle! decorate as you see fit.

to create the 'light' effect here's what I did:
-lay electrical tape where you want 'light' (I've also heard of using reflective tape, which sounds AWESOME)
-to create circles i stacked a couple pieces of tape and cut the circle out (see image..)
-using two shades of teal/blue outline the tape (lighter toward the middle)
-paint all tape over with glow in the dark paint.

disk rack!! my proudest feature? maybe.
- two butterfly clips (though I heard a rumor they stopped making these??)
-bend apart as seen in picture
-hot glue then sew clips onto upper back, facing out
-mount disk.
this is kinda amazing, because it held the disk for a whole convention and then some, and makes the disk super easy to whip out.

this is a super cheap costume to make, and looks pretty darn good when completed. (my total cost: under $15)(to be fair, i already had the pants and shirt and disk )

So, when you say to "outline" the tape in your instructions, do you mean to outline it in another form of tape or with a paint of some sort or with something else? :3 It doesn't look like you used tape in the tutorial, but I can't quite tell, and I've never worked with tape very much before. X3

That's kind of to your preference, I used markers, which was possibly the worst choice (but hey, it's what I had!). To keep with the budget & simplicity of this design, paint would be a better choice. Great layering possibilities there.

That being said, I think a really solid way to do it would be to do thin strips of tape along the outside, then cover it all in a clear tape, or glue (for a slicker look). If I were to do it again, reflective tape on the bottom > translucent blue layers on the edges > thin glue/varnish on top.

Let me know if you try it, & what works for you!

Awesome! Thank you so much.
I think I'm going to try using a combination of reflective tape as the base and electric tape over that, but I'm having a hard time finding good electric tape that matches the color I want, so I'll see what happens. I didn't think about the glue thing, though. What kind would you use?

And I most certainly will. Once it's done, I'll send you a picture or two. X3
