You won’t meet more optimistic and cheerful person in crystallum’s quarters; he is always wearing a smile and never has a bad mood. Being rather fragile and weak, Veres understands that there are lots of things to be happy about in this world, and so he tries to enjoy his life. He prefers thinking that everything is perfect – he has caring family, lots of hobbies, bright future and so on, so there is nothing to worry about.
There is a hardly more caring and helpful person than this guy; Veres is a great support even to people whom he doesn’t know. He feels as if it is his duty to help others. Still, he is not as naïve as you might think he is – Veres is a main candidate to become Dean of House of Crystallums. He is wise and really intelligent; although he lacks some strictness, Veres is a good judge and he will make a good leader in future.
As the War has breached out, Veres started spending most of his free time trying to help people who got injured or somehow touched by war; he also spends more time reading ancient tomes, trying to find any method to help ending war.
Veres is optimistic and open, really helpful and etc; but he doesn't let anyone in his inner space. He also doesn't let anyone take care of him or pity him as he feels weak because of it; he considers himself as a burden due to his health, and doesn't want to show it to anyone. And he never tells people about this part of his personality... while Elda is more honest - she tells people that it takes her time to accept people.

Background:

Her brother Veres and she were kids who were cherished by all crystallum community. As they are twins, ever since their birth they were affected by special attitude of other crystallums, and both of them understood that they needed to justify hopes of others. They studied hard and acquired new rune spheres with a really high speed. As Veres was a mage-type, instead of his fencer-type sister, he took the lead and has already become a Rune Master. Elda, happy that her brother has already achieved such great results, decided to practice in real fights; so she applied in Knight’s Academy of Vingard and successfully made in.

Still, after some time it started to be clear that Elda was becoming a main candidate to become Dean of House of Crystallums – she showed good results in both fencing and magick, and had more rune spheres than Veres did; she was more disciplined and strict and had good memory for all the laws.
Moreover, one of main advantages of Elda was her good health; unfortunately, Veres was not so healthy from the start. He is much weaker than sister, moves slower and from time to time he is nearly fainting; crystallum’s healers are not able to confirm what’s wrong with Veres; it does look like he has heart attacks sometimes, but as crystallum’s have no blood it is not possible.

Strange enough, but Elda was not happy about that; she ended up realizing that she doesn’t want to take that responsibility and stay caged in Vingard. She wanted freedom and right to travel, become a wanderer. But even when she gave up on her Knight’s trainings and got excelled from Academy, shocked Elders did not change their opinion. Elda just WAS fated to become Dean of House to their mind.

Veres knew that his sister didn’t want to become Dean of House, but there was no way he could persuade Elders to change their plans; that was when an idiotic idea appeared in his head. There was only one way to make Elda not suit her future position – she needed to abide the law somehow. Veres offered her a training session within of which she could hurt him somehow by releasing her magick skills on full – which was prohibited for crystallums on trainings. Elda was against, but eventually she gave up, being inspired with the fact that she might be free after that, and healing Veres would be no problem.

During the fight, however, she just couldn’t make herself attack him with full strength. Everything went as usual until Veres understood that he had to do something. He started scoffing at her and trying to piss off sister; Elda, shocked with such behavior, got extremely hurt and attacked him on full. Veres didn’t manage to defend himself from such a blow…

He didn’t remember much from following days; after waking up again he got to know that Elda was put in lock-up after healing him. But as it wasn’t a minor injury but a near-death blow, she was in danger of being put in “stasis” – meaning that she’d have to spend rest of her life in crystal form. Shocked, Veres tried his best to talk Elders against this punishment; luckily he’d managed to do it. After a few weeks Elda has been released; all pale, with short hair (cut due to help healing – hair tresses of crystallums can turn in crystals which they use to close wounds) and no will to struggle, she was silent for quite a long time. She just couldn’t forgive herself for hurting her dear brother that bad.

Being humiliated by other crystallums, she couldn’t even make herself go outside of house; Veres spent most of his time with her, helping her to recover slowly. Eventually Elda regained her self-confidence, and her link with brother grew even stronger.

After some time passed, Elda started new life; she applied for a position of a Guard Officer in Vingard and luckily got accepted; in a while, crystallums accepted her as well, forgiving her. But of course there were no talks about making her Dean of House. Veres has accepted offer to become next Dean of House and decided to spend last ages of his free life in studies.

That’s when our story starts.

Crystallums are able to change their appearance, as human-like form is not their true hypostasis, though it takes quite a lot of time to change appearance (about 2-3 full month, while being in crystal form); moreover, there are still some things that a crystallum can’t change – gender, color of eyes, color of rune orbs (they can’t be hidden as well) and, if crystallum is a Rune Master, he or she can’t hide white locks in their hair (will be mentioned later).
Therefore, crystallums prefer not to change their human form ever in their life.

Veres is a vegetarian – his organism rejects meat and fish because of his crystal nature, so he eats only fresh veggies and fruits. Because of his belonging to crystallums, he also has a low alcohol tolerance, which means that Veres might get drunk even after a glass of wine.
When he cuts his hair, it transforms into unfaceted crystals of rubellite, a rose-red transparent variety of tourmaline, used as a gemstone; white locks turn into white opals, quite rare gemstones. Veres always cuts his hair rather short, or else he becomes curly.
