I was drinking a tea and watching the rain roll down my kitchen window when I spotted a pigeon sitting on a branch of the tree outside. It was preening itself. I watched it for a full 15 minutes and I reflected that at that moment, in certain regards, that pigeon knew what it was doing with its life better than me. So I decided to draw it.

Obviously this isn't actually the same pigeon because I would have had to catch it (cruel and logistically challenging) and then persuade it to model for me (wholly unrealistic) so I settled for using a stock image instead.

Here's to you Mr (or Mrs) Pigeon and your sense of purpose and well groomed feathers. If you hadn't preened yourself outside my kitchen that time, this would never have been drawn.
