Description One of my favorite photos of the Bosque del Apache Wildlife Preserve.  This shows how it is set up: during the Summer, the place is farmland.  In the Winter, when the fields are unused, the place becomes a Bird Preserve.  Some of the fields are flooded to provide refuge to thousands of water birds, ducks, geese, etc, while other fields are left dry to become feeding grounds.  It seems to work out well for everyone, human farmers and avian visitors.
What I also like about this photo is the solitary Sandhill Crane visible.  So why is he all by himself?  Was he some kind of weirdo that none of the other cranes wanted to be seen with?  Was he some kind of anti-social crane who detested the crowds and noise and wanted to be alone with his own thoughts?  Was he a smart crane who learned that if you REALLY wanted to get a good meal, you had to go where no one else had gone looking for food?

I'm fortunate to have visited this wonderful area several times - you've captured it perfectly

as for the lone crane - well the wondering could go on forever, no?

I like to think he is a wandering poet and is coming up with a new rhyme to astonish his fellows.

Lol, your questions look like a nice point for an interview about solitary cranes! How about he found this place so beautiful he cannot decide yet to leave I would do the same if I were a Crane, because the place is amazing, I would love to get lost exploring: oh look it is a seed! Is it comestible? You have given some humor to a wonderful work because you love this or you were afraid we might miss the dear Crane there? Or both! ^^

The picture was kind of small, so I found this an elegant way of pointing him out.  Once you see the crane, the picture changes...or at least it did for me.  The image of a solitary bid wandering in a big landscape was something that brought out a lot of different emotions in me.  I felt that viewers, especially here on DA might react in a similar way.

I´ve seen it before reading your comment! Make two solitary birds: you were the other one wandering and wondering! ^^
