Yes, from their behaviour, but it's more like an unhappy marriage. The male doesn't seem to pay much attention to her and ignores her attempts to get in contact with him. It was the same last year where he didn't participate in the brooding at all and suddenly left her while she was sitting on the nest. He never came back and a few days later she had gone too. I wonder how it will go this year.

Well, perhaps. But then he'll be gay all by himself, since there's no other swans in the neighbourhood. Somebody ought to teach him a lesson, I think, or perhaps some competition from another male would help. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on them to see how it goes. Interesting article, by the way
