In a time before man, a conflict was fought.
Two grand races spanning a multitude of solar systems and galaxies clashed together.
Ultimately both ended up extinct.
The races were known as "K' Sejdeurr" (Ke-sey-durr)
Another race known as "Xanth'auffre" (Ecks-antaur)

The details around how these two races turned onto eachother came from the fact that K'sejdurr had tasked its "friends" to supply a solar system with their technology to capture their suns energy and use it to power all of their planets.

Xanth's had for a long time been constructing energy extractors which in theory could pull out massive quantities of the a suns energy from the core itself. This energy would then be transmitted through a network of warp gates to give the planets around the right amounth of energy.

When the network was turned on, the planets connected got their massive energy boost, meaning that the project had been succesful, this would later prove to be too successful.
An engineer mishap by the clever Xant, made the energy extractor accidently distrubute mass from the core of the sun directly to the planets in around itself, then the sun collapsed around its hollow core, destroying the solar system.

When these news reached the high command of K'Sejdeurr's their bonds with their ally weakened greatly.
The great leader brought his warfleet to one of Xanth's solar systems and decimated it's population from orbit, to get even.
This continued with small battles erupting everywhere and soon the two races were at war.

At the highest point of the conflict, K'sejdeurrs had developed their mightiest intergalactic battleship ever seen.
Simply known as an "Galaxial Annhilator" this immense ship was not only able to disintigrate a galaxy populated by Xanth'auffre, it was also capable of translating it's mass into useful materials. Xanth's however built a much tinier ship, a ship that the enemy laughed at, when they met the bigger badder ship.
This ship was a result of trying to reverse engineer the galaxial annhilators main weapon.
At a few million times less powerful than the weapon it was built after it was n´known as an "Atomic Separator"

Its weapon could defeat much of K'sejdeurrs smaller battleships by tuning in to the energy that bonds the atoms and distrupting it, thus pulverizing their ships into fine granules.
The Galaxial Annhilator though held up to this formidable weapon and Xanth had to rethink their strategy while also needing to scale up their fleet.

Now that the K'sejdeurrs leader had seen the Xanth's new invention, he was once in his lifetime afraid. Afraid that they might lose.
As he was a sore loser he wouldn't take defeat easily.
He resorted to one option if his mighty ship would meet its end.
A virus, the virus would become known in the future for humans as: "Maddlerosia"
As a remnant of this war.

This virus was "tuned" so that it wouldn't affect K'sejdeurr's themself, so they could bathe in it literally while their enemies turned into wicked monsters eating their own populations.
To make sure nothing would survive he made several types of the base virus.

One for all living things. This is the long lived one.
It was the kind humans would come to know in the future.
One that consumed populations and could integrate itself with technology to fight with their own weapons. This was a short lived type of virus, since after it had finished its job it would disintegrate and disappear.
Then finally one that didn't exactly infect living things, but tackled technology directly mostly disabling lifesupport systems and distrupting various types of life essential equipment.

To thread the needle into the eye of oneself he made sure that this virus could be constructed by machines that spread themselfs and could support their own actions to construct the virus a new and its launch facilities

The Xanth'auffre returned in strenght after they had replenished their troops and fought K'sejdeurrs defensively.
Their forces formed around the galaxial annhilator, and the fight commenced.
The fight went on for days and the Xanth made a free path of fire to the K'sejdeurrs main ship.
As it took considerable damage the leader of K'sejdeurrs gave the command...
Millions of pods launched away from the ship, and quickly jumped into hyperspace aimed towards Xanth's solar systems. Xanth disregarded them as simply escape pods and continued to fire, the leader himself of K'sejdeurrs had a strange idea, he could use a device of theirs to transfer their mind and memory into a Tangible Mind Structure Replication Module or simply a "Mind module"
which was his final actions, before the ship, teared along its starboard hull.

The chamber containing his and others precious mind modules seperated from the ship and drove away guided by an auto pilot. After that ripples of explosions spread slowly along the hull of the Galaxial annhilator. When the power inside the machine was released the whole of the Xanth attack fleet vapourated as did the nearby planets.
Xanth celebrated victory and K'sejdeurrs remaining war assets was hidden away in shame.
Then came the pods.
From every planet afflicted terrorizing news came. Space colonies killed off planets consumed, its inhabitants turned into something else that consumed their brethren. Xanth discovered the true nature of the virus and began repelling it with their own means. First they made sure that K'sejdeurrs too could be affected by it. Then they launched it back at them.
K'sejdeurr meant to find the auto piloted ship containing their "Resurrection program" Unfortunately they had the wrong coordinates for its location and was never found. So they couldn't resurrect their leader and without their head leader they were kind of weak and cowardly after their previous defeat.
Slowly the populations vanished on both sides their tech slowly lost and finally they were gone in history and the virus cleaned up itself.
The K'sejdeurr did however not die because of Xanth's reprogrammed Maddlerosia virus, they died because they had a civil war with themselfs until they were too few to survive one generation.

How did anything if at all survive of the Galaxial Annhilator's ultimate destruction?
Well consider that the energy generated is evenly spread across the ships surface, as it breaks up into smaller parts, the energy becomes concentrated upon those pieces hence actually making the shield projectors strong enough to hold back the immense waves of energy. This means that the pieces that survived this way were propelled far away from its original destruction point, before the shield systems fried themselfs and the individual parts drifted out.
Today there is an "Asteroid belt" around the epicentre of its destruction

The last of the surviving K'sejdeurr and Xaunth'auffre died when they tried to colonize a planet that is rumored to be the Crabbeleshcian homeworld

The machines creating the virus continued to "live" and produce many more pods.
An error unintentional in programming made most of the facilities
lose maintenence schedules and broke apart over the ages.
While those that had no reported errors went into hibernation to wait, forever.
