Description

Today is the 20th of August, which is a very special day , since this is the National Day of my country. Basically the Hungary’s version of 4th of July. Anyway, for this special day I’ve decided to draw a picture that depicts the legend of my people finding their home in the Carpathian Basin.

Legend has it, that when the two brothers Hunor and Magor [ancestors of the Hun and Magyar (Hungarian) people], after the death of their father, went on a hunting trip, accompanied by 100 horseman. On the trip they’ve encountered a magnificent white-gold deer. The brothers, thinking it’ll make an excellent trophy, started to chase after the deer, which seemed smarter than it looked. For days the brotheres with their men chased the deer, that they were unable to hit with a single arrow, however, unbeknownst to to them, the deer has lead the men away from their original homeland. After realizing this, the brothers sattled down in the woods for the night, but shortly after the started to hear music coming from a nearby glade. Following the music, the brothers and their men have discovered natives, who were, according to legend, faries! (Hey, it’s just a dumb folk-tale, don’t question it). Hunor and Magor, being respectful gentlemen the were, kidnapped the fary princesses and than married them, like how their 100 horsemen married the rest. From this union born the Hun and Magyar people.

So, this is my "gift" for the 20th of August and a little "history" about my people.
