This is the 12th of my series designing dresses for ponies with a flower theme. Finished with the mane six, this time I picked the flowers based on the flora's meaning closest to the main theme of the baby dragon Spike, with keeping what colors suited him best in mind.
Spike, in this picture, becomes a knight- getting armor based on the Iris. In the language of flowers Isises mean faith, wisdom, cherished friendship, hope, valor, my compliments, promise in love, and wisdom. Traits the #1 assistant has at his best. He's still young, so a few slip-ups are okay.
The front of his helmet is open so he can light his enemies on fire! It totally has nothing to do with aesthetics, nope nope! His poor little ears are likely smushed in that helmet, but its better than them getting sliced off by another sword.
Oh, I don't want to think of Spike getting into real sword fights! I'm gonna hide him away!
'Cause breathing fire on his enemies is less dangerous?

Irises could work but not in the way you think. I read that the Iris means "I have a message for you". The fact that he's the one that sends letters/messages to wherever they need to go fits the bill.

When I think of dragons, I think of powerful creatures. When I think of Iris, I think of the most powerful summon in the video game Golden Sun: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQn79b…. So I am cool with Spike having the iris as his flower. It is fitting.
I like the helmet. I like how you made it open so Spike can utilize his fire breath, and I like the horns which make him look cool and menacing (that lil' devil ). I also really like the idea of having a sword with a guard (I think it is called a guard...? I am talking about the piece between the handle and the blade on the sword.) in the shape af an iris or a flower.
Good to see Spike joining the Mane Six and the others.

I'm glad you liked the design! I tried to make the horns look a little like the iris' petals, too, but it didn't come out too well.
It's fun to design swords. I hope the next time I do armor it comes out even cooler!
