I had the overwhelming desire to draw Midna from Twilight Princess the other dayI've also been really slacking on the 'nice lineart' front lately, so I focused on that for this one!

AHHHHHHH!!! OH MY GOODNESS!! SHE LOOKS ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!! This is just soooooooooo perfect!! WOW!!! First of all, THE COLOURS ARE ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR LIKE WOOOOWWW!!! I love the texture flowing linework ripples in the hair, and the soft gradient in tones there is visually spectacular!! (Can I ask how you did that? it looks incredible!!) And the way the hair circles the entire composition really balances out the piece well and contrasts great with the other dark tones within the work!! It really becomes really eye catching and dynamic!! Love the subtle texture background with the cell shaded shapes, it helps to keep the energy in the background while still successfully emphasising the foreground elements!! The geometric fractals you have scattered around the entire composition are sooo brilliant!! I love the blue mystically aura you've created around each one (I can't even describe them!! They just are pure awesomeness!!!) and I love how they give a create sense of foreground and background by existing on all perspective planes. Their repetition just makes for a really powerful compositional element that really heightens the atmosphere and energy of the piece. They also really add to the character as well and make her look like a force to be reckoned with!!
Hahaha!! And wooooooww Midna herself looks absolutely superbly ultimately awesome here!! Ahhh I love her confident and dynamic pose and the proportions you have used look absolutely brilliant on her (I actually prefer your proportional interpretation to the original!!) The shadows and highlights work perfectly on her and emphasise the form brilliantly!! (Like woow!! The leg areas look soooo professionally textured, they're absolutely amazing!!). Geeee and her Face and mask are sooooo perfect I can't even describe the level of awesomeness in them!! The devious expression is perfect, the eye is pirecing and the amount of detail on the mask is spectacular!! I love how there are no black lines in the mask, it makes it look really unified and gives it it's mysterious ancient appearance (As well as those fantastic tones)!!
Oh my goodness, I could just keep talking about how amazing this is!! But overall, excellent composition, brilliant use of tonal contrasts and Midna looks sooooo awesome here it's unmatchable in quality!! Haha, It's also great to see you try to draw the female form again, looks brilliantssssss!! AWESOMESSSS!!!!

Hair texture: Okay well it's a tad tough to explain, but I'll do my best. Sai has a tool called the 'marker,' which is what I use to colour pretty much all of the drawings I do. Basically, it's a tool that has the effect of the lighter you press, the more transparent the stroke is. So I clip a layer above the base colour and then take a colour that's far more saturated and darker than the base, and start off softly with a bigger brush size. Then I make the brush smaller and keep pressing harder to add the darkness. If your program doesn't have a marker type tool, you could try and make a whole bunch of layers and just change the opacity for each one to try and recreate the effect. Repeat on a new layer for the highlights (yellow in this case). Then, I use an overlay layer on top of all of it and use a dark colour (usually blue or purple) to darken it/add that general gradient. Okay, maybe that doesn't make much sense... Maybe we'll have to chat or draw together at some point to clear that up lol
It's a relief to hear that you like the proportions. She was even taller before... I tried to tone it down but eventually it just looks wayy too small. Like dammit, drawing girls is hard enough without having to worry about totally skewed proportions, eh? T-T

Awww thank you for the explaination!! That helps heaps!!! I don't know if photoshop has a specific 'marker' option, But I'm sure there should be a way to edit the pressure point function to get a similarish effect. Ahhhhh thank you sooo much for writing all that I appreciate it heaps!!

I honestly really love the proportions you ended up with, they work really well with the character and the composition without distorting either!! Haha!! Yeah, drawing girls is soooo difficult, but you did it soooo well here!!! And Midna looks soooo amazing in more regular proportions!!

Thanks! And I'm excited too! I am a bit too modest for my own good (according to my friends) and I tend to be super critical of myself a lot because it helps me see my mistakes and improve. It also means I am rarely proud of my work, though... but it is actually really hard for me to NOT put myself down when talking to others, even if I don't actually mean it. I guess it's a habit or something?
That would work too! I'm fine with either chat or talking. Typing is sometimes annoying when I'm trying to draw, so it might actually be easier to talk, provided you're okay talking with me!
Just a heads up... I can draw fullbody girls just fine, but I fail REALLY badly at guys. And that isn't just me being modest. So... good luck if you want to attempt teaching me?
And just wondering, when are you available to do something like that? I'm not asking for anytime super soon (I have a lot of stuff I'm doing this week anyways), but are you free on weekends? Yep... it's super frustrating when I finish something and think it's amazing, then look at it the next day and am thinking "How could I possibly be proud of this?! There's so many mistakes! And I drew that all wrong... and what's with the shading here?!" etc.

Yes, that is very frustrating! That happens to me a lot as well
I made a rule for myself that I let things sit. I'll draw the sketch, then take a break. Then I'll do the lineart. I usually leave lineart overnight and then look at it again the next day.
Your eyes will be able to see mistakes after taking a break, and it's easier to fix them before everything is coloured! Once everything it patched up, I leave it for another hour, and then colour if things still look okay!
Just something I've gotten in the habit of doing, I guess.
Abundant streams every week on Saturdays. It's at 7 pm my time, so I guess 6 for you?
It usually goes for about two hours, so after should be an ideal time for us.

I'm actually drawing the (minor) Greek Goddess of sorcery, Circe. It's for English because we're doing a Mythology unit and reading The Odyssey. I have to do a presentation on Circe with a visual of some kind, so I was like, I CAN DRAW, I SHALL DRAW CIRCE (sadly not as a chibi...) Then I found out traditional versions of her had her wearing nothing but a see-through cloth and I was thinking craaaaap... so, redesign time! sta.sh/0qry2qi333g (Advice is welcome)
