Katsumi is something of a world traveller, having lived in about twelve different cities across Asia, Europe, and South America over the course of her life. Her father, Kunimichi Nagato, is a well-respected Quirk researcher, and her mother, Kaori Nanase, was a Hero. Kaori was killed by villains when Katsumi was four years old; since then, she's been raised by her father and her older brother Kyouya, who is now a Hero in his own right.

Katsumi and Kyouya both inherited their mother's Quirk, which was considered a powerful mutation of the healing Quirks commonly carried by members of the Nanase family. Morphogenesis is the process by which biological entities shape themselves according to their DNA - Katsumi and her brother can deliberately trigger this process in response to injuries, rapidly accelerating the healing process and even regenerating lost limbs. The Quirk relies on the amount of energy they take in to work, will respond much more slowly when sleeping, and without fine-tuned control is liable to do strange things - both siblings are covered in scars from cosmetic surgeries to remove benign tumours, extra organs and things like that.

Katsumi is a cheery, energetic girl with a sharp mind and a sharper sense of humour. She loves to tease her family and friends, and has been known to go a bit far in doing so. Her manners are not the best either - she picked up a lot of masculine body language from Kyouya, which said big bro found hilarious. She loves fashion and art, and reads RPF Hero fanfiction like a real nerd (especially the terrible All MightxOC romances that you just know are a thing in-universe). She is also a bonafide monster fangirl. Her first try at a hero name was "Frankenstein's Monster" - which was shot down by the teacher in charge with a vengeance.

She has a crush on Kirishima, and everyone can tell.
