This art features my BnHA OC, Karamea Kinaki !!

I may have shrieked aloud when I received this completed comic, that's how excited I was for it after seeing WIPs XDD Padirice did an absolutely amazing job of interpreting my characters and depicting their interactions with each other and with Toshinori, and I'm so happy with it, ahahaha! <33333

After Toshinori and Karamea have Kahurangi, they find it difficult to stay living in the teachers' facilities at UA—an issue compounded by the fact that Toshinori, of all the teachers, will be at the most risk if he chooses to live off campus. They solve this problem by finding a large property adjacent to the UA grounds, on which there is already a fairly large detached house, then subdividing the property and building a new house on the subdivided land - one which includes a state-of-the-art security system designed and engineered to Karamea's exacting standards.

Their first visitors in the new house, aside from various teachers and students who'd been given a grand tour while it was being built, are Karamea's parents, down for a week from Hokkaido. Awhina, proudest grandma of a robot child that she is, brings many gifts with her—mainly electronic devices like old phones and tablets, which Kahurangi has been having great fun investigating and taking apart since she developed the vestibular coordination necessary to use them. Inuma, despite his resting bitch face, is terribly happy to see his grandrobot as well, and also ever fascinated by the final form his family's Quirk has mutated into.

Kahurangi wears a lot of soft, plush onesies when she is a very small child. These don't tend to last very long; her many moving metal parts tend to munch them up from the inside. Their primary purpose is to protect anyone who holds her from said moving metal parts, which can sometimes be quite sharp. At this stage of her life, it's still possible to pick her up and coo over her like any normal baby, but she's fast putting on weight in more dense metal parts and soon enough Awhina is going to have to admit defeat. Karamea has surprisingly strong arms from wrestling with machinery, and still has a few months left. By the time Kahurangi is three, the only person who can pick her up and play with her at all is honorary uncle Izuku—at that point she weighs as much as a full-grown adult.

Awhina keeps saying that Kahurangi looks just like Karamea did as a baby. Karamea personally does not see it, but Awhina is such a great help to have around that she lets it slide.

Given the age gap between Karamea and Toshinori, her parents are only two and four years older than he is. Things were a little awkward at first between them, but he's long since proven that he can make their daughter very happy indeed, and that's what matters most to them. He's always quite surprised when they show the same sort of affection to him as they do their daughter, but, as Awhina says, he's family now.

Karamea's parents, who have enjoyed a successful marriage for thirty years now despite their very different personalities. Awhina, an accomplished linguist originally from New Zealand, is the face of their relationship, with a bubbly, extroverted, and borderline bossy personality who tends to end up being the 'Mom friend' in every social group she works her way into (and there's a lot of those). Inuma, despite his often public-facing job, is a sensible, introverted man primarily driven by his pursuit of justice and peace for all, and who has a marked tendency to hide in the kitchen whenever his wife brings him to her friends' house parties. Nevertheless, their relationship has never yet faltered—perhaps because of their mutual insistence on clear communication and regularly checking in on each other.

They have two children, of which Karamea is the elder by fifteen years. Their younger daughter, Riki, is currently in her last year of middle school. They live on a semi-rural property on the outskirts of Sapporo, where Awhina runs a productive garden and raises a flock of enormous chickens, her 'dinosaur daughters', and Inuma builds interestingly-shaped cars in the property's old barn. Both are of Indigenous descent (Inuma is Ainu; Awhina is Maori) and very concerned with retaining their cultures into the future. Karamea and her sister grew up in a quadrilingual household: Japanese, Ainu, Te Reo Maori and English were all regularly spoken between parents and children.

(Awhina's name is Maori; it is pronounced like ah-fee-na, with a soft f made by blowing air between the lips and stress on the first vowel. It means 'helper'.)
