OOOOOOO~ This will be my hundredth traditional-media drawing to be posted on here~ Bloody hell I love shading blonde hair...Well, ~SangoKisaragi knows what's going on here, but none of you other jokers do, so let's explain.
I had an idea for a One Piece AU story the other day. It's set in a half-traditional, half-unusual fantasy world, in which people believe in a pantheon of various supernatural spirits that power the magic in said world. Luffy and the Straw Hats are adventurers, just wandering the world looking for various things- food, booze, pretty girls, treasure, etc... I'm fairly sure you can guess who's looking for what. ^^
Most of the other supporting characters are these spirits who inhabit the world in various places, and these two here in the picture are two of the most powerful spirits. There's Marco (pineapple-haired dude, if you don't know him), who is the Phoenix, representing death and rebirth, and Loki, the Green Lady, representing life. Since the three aspects are cyclical, each complimenting the other, could the bards in the world have done anything else but depict the pair as lovers? ^^ I'm sure you all know how we humans love a good love story~
Their respective tattoos represent each other's powers- the flames for Marco, and the vines for Loki.
They're not going to be major players in the story, but I couldn't resist drawing them. I should draw Adventurer!Luffy, but I gotta finish the Lightyear Pirates first...

I just can say Owwwwwwww... It's twice as good when colored. Didn't see before some little details, like Loki's hairdo. Now I see it, the thing she has on her head looks like Marco's belt, or is it just me?
Oh, I just envy your coloring so much... And yeah, blonde hair is the most entertaining to shade

Complicated linearts can make it a wee bit difficult to see the details, that's true. Yes, that thing on Loki's head does look a wee bit like Marco's belt- I hadn't realised until I'd linearted it, but I looked at it and thought 'hey, that's kind of a cool coincidence.'
Heh, I can't claim all of the credit for that colouring- I have a set of absolutely brilliant pencils that do most of the work!

Well, it's kinda hard to explain, despite being so simple... I just get my pencils, and colour the darkest shades first, then the lighter ones over the top. Usually I use three or four different shades, which may or may not make a difference... and I play around with pressing harder or softer on the pencil... and I think that's all...

Yeah, shading first, because it'll show up underneath the lighter colours. For some things too, I go over the top with a white pencil, and it gives a nice shiny effect, like silk or something. ^^
