"Hey Sam! I wanna go on the beach!" "I don't think so little buddy, we can't afford another lawsuit!"

I still remember the original comics that they'd pack into Lucasarts game boxes. That shit was dark! "Sam, is there an afterlife?" "Lets kill ourselves and find out!" Turns out that there was an afterlife, but they got kicked out, because anywhere those two exist cannot be considered paradise.

The Telltale games ever quite clicked with me the way the first game, those comics and even the cartoon series did.

Well, in a way it's difficult for any studio to compete with classics like "Sam & Max Hit the Road". Along with the ancient (and yet awesome) "Day of the Tentacle", Sam & Max is some of the most outrageous and endeared adventure games of their time. If you look at Steam, how many developers are still trying to replicate that old "Lucas Arts" adventure games look & feel? Some are even using the SCUMM engine! LOL

Yeah, they're often imitated but never duplicated.

You'd be surprised - sometimes they hit the jackpot. I have recently played "Whisper of the Machine", and it had that very Lucas Arts feel, plus some innovations in the gameplay that I've greatly enjoyed. They give you cybernetic implants to help solving crimes that was blast to play with.
