Description ~Blissful Rain~

You may have noticed I haven't posted anything for almost a week. That's because I have been working on paid commissions, where this is one of them and I am almost done with it. This "sexy nun" outfit has been created in 3DSMAX and rigged for animation in Poser. It consists of six pieces that can fit both V4 and A4, and nearly all of the body morphs are included, plus some extras that were requested for the commission. I just finished the head piece today, which was the last remaining part for this set.

The nun habit is a hybrid of conforming outfit with body handles to allow for a more natural-looking, distortion-free posing. I went through some online research to find out some of the details about nun outfits, even though this design has little to do with real nun habits. Outfits like this are widely available as party costumes - in much larger quantities than I ever imagined. If not for this commission, I would probably never know that! LOL

DISCLAIMER: If you are a religious person, please do not feel offended by this outfit design. I have created the outfit following the design provided by the commissioner very closely. This is a paid commission and I have no nun fetishes whatsoever.

Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!

Great work on the clothing model. Out of curiosity, why don't you use Max for rigging? I know Max character rigs would have to be made from scratch and the conversion of textures might take extra time...

Thank you. That's one of the most asked questions, but the reason is quite simple: models rigged in MAX only work with MAX, so I wouldn't be able to use it in Poser.

BTW, MAX character rigging is pretty much automated nowadays, so it has not been made from scratch for many years now. Rigging for Poser or MAX has now become nearly the same process, although MAX has obviously more resources to do that since it costs $3,000 more than Poser.

Good point there. Is there a particular reason you prefer Poser over Max for rigging? I'm about to tackle my first character mesh rig using Biped.

ken1171 In reply to korrian [2008-07-24 04:27:12 +0000 UTC]

That is also a good question!

The reason is simple and it comes from years of experience rigging characters for other 3D applications - Poser models are widely *reusable*! Let me explain that. If you rig a character for 3DSMAX, Maya, Lightwave or whatever else you might prefer, only expert users of that particular application will ever be able to use them.

Now if you rig it for Poser, it becomes instantly available to millions of Poser users who most probably have no idea how 3D or character rigging works - and they don't have to! That's because Poser is a 3D application for meant content "users", not developers. ^^

Makes sense to you?

I personally think the secret of realistic pinups is the posing and lighting. Poses can give away realism, while lighting is a very complicated and subjective matter. I prefer to use more traditional photography lighting setups instead of Poser's 3D-ish approach. I like being minimalistic, where in many cases 3 lights is too much. ^^

Thats what I've tried to do with my latest post, more realism in pose and only used a 3 light set from RDNA plus a 'Final' render in P7, something I dont normally do
