Go spotty!
I have to say, you're one of the greatest artists on deviantART. If not the greatest. Of course, this is coming from a stupid wannabe (Me.), so I don't know if that's good or bad, but hey, it's the truth.
You > Everyone.

Reminds me of kagome was it from tenchi. I think it was kagome. The shoulder pads really ad depth and variety to the whole outfit.

Hmm, I think Kagome is from Rumiko Takahashi's "Inu Yasha" series. Who else but Takahashi would dare to name a main character with such a hillarious name? LOL
This outfit has some cool details on the side and back, but unfortunately those cannot be seen from this angle. ^^

Oh, Tenchi Muyo's Kiyone, gotcha. That outfits is more like an interesting mixture of uniform with regular social clothing.
For the design I used here, I conducted a research on the evolution of Anime SciFi uniforms since the 1970's until 2004, and this is what came out.
As opposed to the rather straight old fashion style, modern female SciFi uniforms now often come opened at the chest level as seen here, to reveal the one-piece plugsuit (she's a mecha pilot) she wears under it. As opposed to the Masamune Shirow sexy and often revealing (transparent) style, my version of the plug suit is more like what a woman would feel comfortable wearing. The jacket has some cool details on the side and back, and I will try to show it somehow in a later picture. ^^

Thats cool that you do comprehensive studies, I bet you understand the methods of character design alot better than most people!

Hehehe, I wonder if I do? When I asked for suggestions, people voted for some sort of Sci-Fi soldier outfit, but then I thought that would be so beaten because everybody is doing that sort of outfit. Then I thought of those space pilots, but then again, it would probably end up just like a soldier uniform. And then I finally thought - what if it's a giant mecha pilot instead? They use to have distinguished outfits, and then I went to research what's the fashion nowadays, since I don't like the looks from the 70's and 80's (too straight). When I saw some designs with female jacket opened chested like this, I just thought that's it! ^^

I see what you mean. I have always been touchy about originality, but I wonder if something can be created without the influence of others. I mean, there is a chance nothing is really created out of 'nothing'. As they say, if you copy from one it's 'plagiarism', but if you copy from many, then it's now called 'research'.

an interesting point of view. But it depends on whether you copy, or emulate loosely. Also, in drawing especially, the way you originally trained your muscles to draw feeds into your style, no matter how hard you try to copy, your drawings will always have the same feel as your own. A unique curve or stroke defines your style as much as the finished product, no?

When I model a character I start with a frontal and profile ref image and do something similar to rotoscopy, I've done a few anime models directly from my drawings, so my 3d takes on the same style as 2d. Strangely enough I did those before I could draw so they look accordingly.

He, I'd love to see your 3D models! I want to see if they have your style, as you said.
It's easy to see such things when seen from a 'outside' person. ^^
