Takes so long to render a single frame that it's discouraging to animate.

Lol that depends on your settings. Shit you don't even have to do a full render just a viewport render like I did with this. I made 12 different viewport renders of a 225 frame animation in a just about 1 hour and some change. I looks so good I decided to not even bother with a full render.

That's the thing - I render with Octane, and there is no preview mode. I can only finish the render, or leave it grainy and unwatchable. Octane uses its own shaders, so I cannot use Poser's preview because the default materials look horrible.

I have actually burned 2 nVidia cards with GPU rendering - a GTX275 and a GTX470. The cooler fans in these cards were not built to withstand that much work and the cards overheat to a crisp. That's why I've bought the "classified" version of the GTX580, because it ships with a higher grade cooling fan with double bearings and larger fins. Conversely, it sounds like a jetliner is taking off when I render! LOL

DAAAAAAAAAMN. Well in that case I will stick with Vray and CPU rendering. Not like I have a choice right now anyway lol. I hear nothing when I render...ah Silence.Β

Well, my processor fan also gets loud when I CPU rendering, since this is a 4GHz quad core and it gets hot. But thanks to this Zalman cooler, temps never get higher than 65C. Not too bad, considering how old this PC is. ^^

I have tried liquid cooling, also Zalman, but over a year I was having clogs and leaks. The pump would stop working as soon as a single bubble went into it, causing the moboΒ sensorsΒ toΒ panic and shut down.Β In addition, it was a passive water cooler, so temps could never go lower than ambient, which was normally high in Arizona. Somehow I found the pump noise rather annoying too.

Thank you! This is the traditional 3-light setup, with key, fill and rim spotlights. I have used this setup for many years, and it's good when you want to create shape definition, depth, and color contrast. Only good for indoor studio setup, though. ^^
