Description ~Onigiri~

It has been a while I wanted to do something in this style. It's sorta chibi, and I think it's cute. Once again, this is completely different from anything else I have done before in my gallery, so you won't be bored.

She can be cute, but at the same time it's one of the worse models I ever worked with so far. The rigging was quite poorly done and posing her is a pain. She lacks some major controls such as eyebrows and hand grasping. Guess I can't complain, since everything in this scene are freebies. ^^

Thanks for coming by!

Wow, another non-Japanese artist besides me uses Wapipu? n_n

You've done well with her, she looks sooo cute.

I've not posted any of the art I've done with the model... they were Rozen~Maiden fanarts I did as a present for a dear friend of mine.

Thank you! I am having 2nd thoughts about using this model again, since the rig controls are almost unusable. The controls were also left unnamed, so it's hard to figure what they do. The skeleton was not properly aligned with the mesh, so her body often bends to odd angles, especially the hands. -_-

I wonder if wapico is still learning rigging?
But yay for freebies
Very cute. I always laugh when Onigiri gets called doughnuts or cake in dubbed anime for TV.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-04 20:51:58 +0000 UTC]

I think she just created or reused an existing skeleton but forgot or don't know she still have to spend some painful hours adjusting and calibrating each and every joint so that they bend properly.

Ouch, doughnuts? I think I already heard of "rice cakes", but doughnuts is a little far fetched! LOL Chinese dubs are sometimes the most hilarious because in many cases they don't make any sense at all.

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-04 22:41:57 +0000 UTC]

ricecakes?! isn't that health food
A lot of dubbed tv anime is like that... it's kind of weird because any kid knows that's not a doughnut!

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-04 23:18:14 +0000 UTC]

The Anime sub industry is under-staffed and over-crowded with work, so that's where the quality goes to - down the drain.

Fansubbers do great jobs I think.... maybe some of them should be employed

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-05 07:48:00 +0000 UTC]

But if they get employed, quality will drop.
They will have waaay less time to do it and the salary is laughable.
That's how subs go wrong when they go commercial.

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-05 15:31:13 +0000 UTC]

You wouldn't think so the price they charge for them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-05 19:25:30 +0000 UTC]

I read an article about this in a magazine, and they claim subs are not very well paid comparing to the amount of work and time given to do it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-06 15:00:02 +0000 UTC]

actually that explains why some subtitles are a bit iffy.
I don't know japanese but I picked up a few words in the years and I swear some subtitles are just rip off scripts from the dub.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-06 19:44:33 +0000 UTC]

It's actually a bit more complicated than that. Dubs need to sync with mouth movement and timing, so more often than not they cannot be a perfect translation. To add to the problem, length of sentences vary a lot when comparing Japanese vs English. As for the subs, it's just a matter of having to sub 15 different videos per week while being paid $20 per worked hour. Don't expect high standards on that base.

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-06 20:34:58 +0000 UTC]

Haha... I'm reminded of every kung fu movie i've seen dubbed.
Dubs used to be the only thing you could buy here in the UK in the early 90's.... although I used to get away with buying an 18certificate one without anyone caring when i was 14.
Just went off topic there
Let me just say... DVD's are a wonderful thing on my account Although BBC don't do great quality dvds.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-06 21:33:10 +0000 UTC]

That's true - until DVDs would come out with dual language + subs, Anime videos would come in multiple different versions:
* Censored
* Uncensored
* Dubbed
* Subbed
* Director's cut
* Unrated
...and so on. For example, "Dragon Pink" VHS version had at least 4 different releases of the very same tapes, but only ONE dvd version!

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-07 13:21:17 +0000 UTC]

I think they're starting to do that with some dvds too.
i was on an american shopping site and their naruto dvds are different... there's cut TV dub version (why'd anyone would buy that is beyond me worst editing ever) and uncut version with both sub and dub and the uncut boxset with 13 episodes
Here in the uk they just released the 13episodes boxset.
It sort of annoys me when I buy a movie and then 4 months later they release a special edition with deleted scenes... i like those features.

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-08 05:06:07 +0000 UTC]

Same things here. When I first bought the collector's DVD box of the original Dragon Ball TV series, a few months later they released an "uncut" version of the SAME box I already purchased.

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-09 00:23:32 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-09 04:27:10 +0000 UTC]

And there's MUCH more we will never know about that. For example, the "Mezzo Forte" DVD has 5 versions: cut, uncut, censored, uncensored, and also the "director's Edition", which here in America is considered the "complete" version - although that seems to be 12 minutes shorter than the raw Japanese version. Go figure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-09 15:38:09 +0000 UTC]

reminds me of 'the plague dogs' film... in the uk it's 88mins in america it says is 90-108 mins but in actual fact it's 88mins too... the only country that has a full version is Australia.
It's a real rare film... but it made me chuckle that because of the british accents some people wish it had subtitles.
I heard chicken run had trouble like that too.

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-09-09 18:11:35 +0000 UTC]

See? In the same way, there is no "complete" version of the Mezzo Forte OAV in America, even when they claim the director's cut is "complete". Funny when in the 'land of the free', we still have people in the background deciding for us what we can see or not - it's not for us to choose.

shichi-reifujin In reply to ken1171 [2006-09-10 02:49:41 +0000 UTC]

It's the same in any "free" country though. People think they are able to see what they want and are seeing something in its entirety, but if they actually take the time to look into something, it's never the case...

It all started when the September 11th terrorists allegedly used the Internet as a major way of communication. Now everybody should be considered as a potential terrorist if they chat on the web - so governments should pay people to spy on us when we do it. Isn't that clever?

The hair looks so full of detail

ken1171 In reply to zenadorion [2006-09-03 09:34:50 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I think Poser took less than 2 minutes to render this scene. The hair has been transmapped with a nice texture and transparency map, and that's where most of the details come from. Transmapped hair renders really fast. ^^
