Description ~Suzuka~

Once upon a time on Earth I get tired of using the same old Poser figures, and I go in a journey searching for something new to work with. This time I've got my grubby paws over this little girl, originally created by Mattaku for Metasequoia. She's really low poly (3914 faces total), with less geometry than AnimeDoll's head alone - even after I remodeled her body to make her more rounded and also to add more body details. She has some funny feet! Finally, she comes with a bikini that was useless for Poser rigging, so I created this new one with 300 faces total. Gosh, enough of technical mambo-jambo!

Hope you like her and thanks for coming by!

Because I received a phone call from God he He told me not to create toes here.

That's a lot of faces! That's amazing, the complexities of these figures.

hehe, something like 3,900 faces may look like a lot, but in reality it's very low and not even enough to create the just the head of the other models I use in my pics. ^_^

Eee, seems like you did a lot of work! I wish I could do stuff like that!

I really like her face... I'm not sure if it's just the angle you've posed her in but, from this view the face seems much more appealing than AD's. Really cute eyes and nose!

...the toes are by far the best part, however.

Awesome work!

One good thing about things like this is that everytime I rig a new model I end up learning something new and useful. For this model it was how to fix faceted parts without necessarily adding more geometry. Sometimes that can be fixed just by moving the existing vertexes around. Suzuka's face is much more simplified than AnimeDoll's, and I wonder if she would be capable of facial expressions to the same degree. I guess facial expressions would require a heavier head geometry, but Suzuka's total polycount is less than AnimeDoll's head alone. Can you imagine that?

Thank you! I couldn't resist converting this model to Poser once I saw the lowpoly version of her.

Thanks! Many Japanese modelers ommit toes when making lowpoly models. Looks like that's common practice. ^^

I'd love to create characters like the little witch you get with Metasequoia (one day maybe)
She's a nice improvement. very cute.
I'm starting to think you really love rigging

She's called 'witch' in the meta folder She's a low polygon (well i presume) game like character with a fireball monster over her head.

I see 9 MQO models there, but none is a witch. There is fish, cat, fly, princess, etc. Maybe you have a different version? ^^

So have you tried modeling anything in MQO so far?

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-06-05 18:26:53 +0000 UTC]

not anything good... it's hard to start off when you're a real newbie to 3d modelling and not sure what to do. I did manage to make a skirt following some of ~lelu 's tutorials. I Picked up hexagon at daz too while it was $1.99 so i may have a try at that.

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-06-05 18:55:21 +0000 UTC]

I'd like to hear about Hexagon and what's good about it. I have already tried so many different 3D modeling programs, I've got a bit tired. I've stayed with 3DSMAX this far, but I am always open to alternatives that ease the creation of symmetric models such as characters and clothes. ^^

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-06-06 09:05:22 +0000 UTC]

hexagon was the only program in my price range... which is really sad when you think about it.

Well, what about Blender 3D? It's the most popular and well supported 3D modeling program out there, where even an entire 3D movie is being produced using it as of this writing. I mean, nothing can be cheaper than... free? Look here --> [link] for more details.

I have blender on my pc but the interface is so.... complicated. Just looking at it made me give up (okay i'll be first to admit i'm hard to please)

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-06-08 11:30:01 +0000 UTC]

If you think Blender is complicated and overwhelming, wait until you see Maya...

wyrdwing In reply to ken1171 [2006-06-12 11:23:46 +0000 UTC]

I looked at the LE version... didn't look that bad... although it was going on the 'looks messy and complicated' route

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ken1171 In reply to wyrdwing [2006-06-12 19:20:05 +0000 UTC]

I personally think Maya can be overwhelmingly complicated, and that's one reason I prefer 3DSMAX over it. Maya has the steepest learning curve and it took me ages to learn it. To me 3DSMAX is more visual, intuitive, and straight forward - but not as powerful as Maya. Maya's UV tools are way better than 3DSMAX, which looks messy and cumbersome in that area. In the end it's a give and take. ^^

ken1171 In reply to FJ-Cruisin [2006-05-28 06:56:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Truth is that I've spent so much time to improve her chest and torso that I've got tired and decided to leave her toes alone.
Her face was also had to be reconstructed because she originally didn't have any eyes, those were only textures. Here she is featuring real 3D posable eyes. ^_^
The fingers would also not bend properly because of insuficient geometry and those had to be fixed. I think the hands look beautiful now and pose quite well.
I am glad enough she is still under 4,000 faces total after reconstructed for Poser, since that was the target poly count.
She is still low poly enough to be used in real-time in a game engine!

Thank you! Making low poly models look good has been one of my favorite challenges, and talented low poly 3D artists such as Cypher and Mattaku (both Japanese) have been an endless source of inspiration. There is a particular beauty on low poly 3D models that only a few know how to appreciate, to include myself. Creating low poly models that look decent is the ultimate 3D modeling challenge, but most people use to think the opposite. ^^

I *love* reworking low poly models - I think they are the ultimate 3D modeling challenge!
Suzuka's breasts and front torso were the areas I remodeled the most because they looked horrible in Poser.
I was tempted to rig her breasts for bouncy animations but then reconsidered because I would first have to create morph targets for facial expressions, and that alone would be enough work for an entire week.
