I wanted to put something in the background that would make me say, "That place looks sick. I wanna go there!". Then I started brainstorming about forest areas in the games. The jungle in Heroes triggered that thought process, but I also looked at the unfinished Wood Zone from Sonic 2.
If I were to explore the area in detail, I would combine these locations in some way.

Well I can tell you those rings are rotating around a special gem. Could be a Chaos Emerald. Could be something else entirely. Whatever it is, it's gonna be plot relevant in some way, so I'd rather leave that as a surprise for later.
