That was actually something the art director was very strict about, it shouldn't be anything like the movie!

I've actually never read the books... It was recommended we do that, but i didn't have the time... I was supposed to draw more cards for them but my workputer died on me just after that drawing, and the work went to somebody else before I could get a new one. Aaaand, I've never seen the film either, but the AD said that if anything we should be a bit inspired by that "sequel"...

Too bad you got to do but one design. I find the card series very fun, and a refreshing change from the usual collector card stuff.

RETURN TO OZ, is pretty impressive VISUALLY. They stuck very close to the original book illustrations and it was all done without CG and computers! All beautiful puppets, make-up and costumes. Today with all the amazing CG capabilities available, the ultimate OZ film could be made.
I find it surprising that you have not seen the original MGM film. But, since you did not grow up in AMERICA where it was shown on network TV every year for about 30 years, perhaps it's not as surprising as I think it is.
