Description Inspired by the Book of Kells [link]
I wanted to draw something like pictures in books of early Middle Ages. Martin Freeman's John Watson is my obsession now, but I didn't know how to fit him into this idea. So my sister told me to portray him like a monk-chronicler. In Middle Ages monks were not only educated enough to write cool stories about their clever colleagues but also practiced medicine. Where is Sherlock? I think he is portrayed on another page of this Chronicle.

I'm a fan of both Medieval-style art and Sherlock Holmes, so this is kinda up my alley. It's also an interesting idea pushing the characters waay back in time, as opposed to forward in time as is the case in the television program. Well done!

Holy crap, this is impressive! I love the intricate knot details! Lol, all he needs is for his hair to be tonsured.

fairyqueen77 In reply to kennichka [2013-07-25 21:28:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I suppose it is kind of difficult to picture Watson with a tonsure, huh? I have to ask, what would you depict Sherlock as?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kennichka In reply to fairyqueen77 [2013-07-27 01:15:27 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes  I think Sherlock would be a monk too, because then he would have an opportunity to do sciense. And it would explain his asexuality

fairyqueen77 In reply to kennichka [2013-07-27 06:49:33 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, good point. But it's even harder to picture Sherlock with a tonsure. I wonder what the medieval equivalent of a detective would be? He wouldn't be a Crowner; that's more in Watson's line. I suppose he'd have to be a Sheriff to practice his detective skills. At least, that's the best I can come up with at 2 in the morning.

Oh, I just imagined Sherlock with a tonsure, thank you for making my day! Hmm, I like your ideas!
I also imagined Sherlock as alchemist, because of his addiction to a science and mysteries (I wonder if he would be able to invent a philosophers' stone), and John as retired crusader (several Orders were famous by practising medicine, I heard. Also they were making a war in a hot  faraway country)

fairyqueen77 In reply to kennichka [2013-07-31 03:52:05 +0000 UTC]

I can totally see Watson as a retired crusader, but what order would he actually belong to? Hmm, the crusader and the alchemist. . . I think we either just came up with a crazy book plot, or a really well mismatched sitcom couple.

kennichka In reply to fairyqueen77 [2013-07-31 19:49:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know much about crusader's orders so I can't say really x) Oh yes, crazy is the most suitable word!

fairyqueen77 In reply to kennichka [2013-08-01 00:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Off the top of my head, I'd say the Templars, but: 1, I don't know if medicine was among their many accomplishments; and 2, that might be difficult, given that the order was accused of heresy, disbanded, and the members hunted down and basically executed.

Wish I could write that story, but I've got another one to finish first. Well, assuming I can replace my fried hard drive and rewrite what I lost, anyway.

Thanks. Thankfully a good bit of my short stories and poems are on here. But I lost the first chapter of my latest idea. It'll take awhile to rewrite, especially long hand.
