Description So apparently you can make cake in the microwave in a coffee cup? I guess? I thought this was too good to be true.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but it didn't turn into cake so much as a gelatinous blob of flour, sugar and cocoa. I tried to eat it, I really did. We won't discuss the results of that.

Transformers belong to HasTak.
Thrust was able to keep the cake-blob down better than I could.
Art is mine.

It works pest if you use a pancake base. Also, grease the cup so it comes out easier.

Um, I'm pretty sure she used a five minute mug cake recipe from off the internet. There are alot of them and I'm not sure which one it was, but it wasn't one of the eggless ones.

Oh god! I had something like that! Mine didnt turn into a cake either! My friends dog sniffed it (Cause this guy eats everything!) he whimpered tail between his legs and ran away from it. This Microwave Cake is a lie!

I tried again with a different recipe and it did turn out much more cake-like, but it was still enough to convince me that waiting 35 minutes for a REAL cake in the oven is totally worth it

Apparently, you gotta use pastry flour. Which is redonkulously hard to find in grocery stores around here

Ty-Chou [2011-04-09 05:22:07 +0000 UTC]

That doesn't sound right. I know there's like microwave desserts made specifically for the microwave. But it's not exactly the best device to bake with. I hope your cup survived at least.

Kenthayle In reply to Ty-Chou [2011-04-09 23:38:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the cup was fine. It was too tempting not to try. Apparently there is a way to make it work properly though ... maybe I'll have to keep trying

SharkNinjaBlueStar [2011-04-05 04:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I remember seeing how to do that on Food Network, you've gotta pressurized the cake batter in a special little canister, which is normally used for making whipped cream, that's how it fluffs up in the microwave, because after you squirt it from the pressurized canister, the batter is full of millions of tiny air bubbles, which expand when you heat it up in the microwave.....

sorry about that, the foodie in my just has to prattle on sometimes...

Kenthayle In reply to SharkNinjaBlueStar [2011-05-05 22:42:12 +0000 UTC]

Huh ... that's interesting. I didn't know that part. The recipes I found just seem to accept the fact that this becomes very, very dense cake. I did try it again with a little more success, but I think I'll stick to making cake in the toaster over from now on

No, microwaves are NOT good for making cake (but they make for good cartoon fodder, don't they?).

Kenthayle In reply to Tessombra [2011-04-04 00:27:38 +0000 UTC]

Yep! Soon I will not have a microwave, but I use it maybe once a month so I'm not too worried. Toaster ovens for the win!

Awwww *sending you virtual Chocolate cupcakes cause I eated all the ones I made a couple of days ago

I hope you and Thrust didn't get a tummy upset from it and I'm in complete agreement with Red there.

You actually can make cake in the microwave, I remember my mum experimenting with doing that way back when we got our very first microwave.... But it's not as good as oven baked cake and needed a special pan.

Kenthayle In reply to ladyleyn [2011-04-03 17:50:23 +0000 UTC]

Yay! *virtually eats virtual cupcakes* nomnomnom

Thrust has cast-iron tanks or something. He can eat almost anything. Which is good, because he pretty much does.

My mom used to make angel food cake in the microwave. I'm not sure why this didn't work out. I'll try again with a better recipe.

Cake in a coffe cup in a microwave? *_* I must try now. Even knowing it'll probably fail.

Love Red's expression! And careful Thrust. Anything that goes 'splorp' will likely only clog your systems!

Kenthayle In reply to Starze [2011-04-01 18:58:43 +0000 UTC]

That's what I said too! I remember my mom making angel food cakes in the microwave, so I totally thought this would work. Maybe I'll try again.

I'm continually amazed at the things Thrust can eat without clogging his systems. Most of it Red won't touch.

Starze In reply to Kenthayle [2011-04-02 03:41:58 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, I can see Red refusing to eat anything that is even slightly off. Probably afraid he'll get food poisoning. *pets him*

He's always ragging on me about what I eat. But no secret, he loves chocolate just as much as Thrust does
